The United States has spent a record of at least $17.9 billion on military aid to Israel since the war in Gaza began and led to escalating conflict around the Middle East, according to a report for Brown University’s Costs of War project, released Monday on the anniversary of Hamas’ attacks on Israel.
An additional $4.86 billion has gone into stepped-up U.S. military operations in the region since the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks, researchers said in findings first provided to The Associated Press. That includes the costs of a Navy-led campaign to quell strikes on commercial shipping by Yemen’s Houthis, who are carrying them out in solidarity with the fellow Iranian-backed group Hamas.
The report — completed before Israel opened a second front, this one against Iranian-backed Hezbollah militants in Lebanon, in late September — is one of the first tallies of estimated U.S. costs as the Biden administration backs Israel in its conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon and seeks to contain hostilities by Iran-allied armed groups in the region.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Doesn’t most of it get kicked back to spending on US -made MIC ordnance?
A much better move than investing in the Community Reinvestment Act, The Green New Deal, Student Loans for Gender, Race and Queer studies for sure. And we can now see the returns!
Yes,it does.
Indeed
Yes, it’s mostly for US MIC. But it is debated and voted on by Congress and signed by the President. It’s on the American ballot.
But it means the IDF can have dangerous independence from the democratically elected government of Israel. And Israel is an industrious, hi tech, and prosperous country with a growing Jewish population that can afford such debt while the US is drowning in debt.
Historically, Israel’s defense spending has fluctuated, averaging 12.01% of GDP from 1960 to 2022, with a peak of 30.46% in 1975
Appears to be money well-spent.
Not under Biden it wasn't...if he was also appeasing and enabling the very forces threatening Israel. To top it off, I don't think Trump would approve of the amount either. It's not about quantity but quality of how we fund our interests abroad, and making sure Israel does their part as well.
Future spending should be LOANS not grants.
Presidents like Biden threw money around everywhere from Israel to Hamas itself — through whatever channels be they direct or indirect...With ZERO expectation on the part of the other side to pay us back...or hold budget parity of any kind!
Same goes for just about every trade deal we’ve had with just about every country in recent decades.
About the only rationale for the spending is that a nuclear exchange between Israel and Iran, or a wider regional war, would cost us much more.
At least with Israel we/US gets a ROI!-)
MIGA!
