At around 6 a.m. this morning, hundreds of people across Germany awoke to police officers at their door. Their only ‘crime’ is to have openly made critical or offensive comments on the internet, many about specific politicians.

This is not a scene from the Third Reich or the German Democratic Republic, but from the Federal Republic in the 21st Century. Officers from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) intend to make approximately 170 house visits today, to investigate ‘hateful’ or insulting comments made online. Suspects have had their tablets, laptops, and phones confiscated, and their homes searched. This operation has been taking place annually for several years now, to enforce paragraph 188 of the German criminal code. This was amended in 2021 to make it a criminal offence to insult a political figure, punishable by a maximum sentence of three years in prison.
According to the BKA, there were 10,732 crimes related to online hate speech last year—that’s an increase of roughly 34% since 2023. Compared to 2021, the numbers have quadrupled. Naturally, the vast majority of the posts being targeted by police come from the right wing of the political spectrum.
The BKA also encourages citizens to support the police in combating so-called hate crimes. Anyone who encounters hate speech online or becomes a victim of hate speech should report it to the local police. “Report hate posts to social network providers and request them to delete criminal content,” the Federal Criminal Police Office states.
While it shies away from doing anything about its violent crime problem, the German state is not taking offensive memes or crude insults lightly. North Rhine-Westphalia’s interior minister, Christian Democrat Herbert Reul, warned: “Digital arsonists must not be able to hide behind

Exactly correct.
> Most of the jackboots are masked. How interesting... <
And look how many there are, at least seven cops for one old guy.
I wonder if they stationed even more cops around his house. After all, he could have grabbed his laptop and escaped out of a back window.

> Good thing you did not call them NAZIs like I do <
I’m eligible for Hungarian citizenship based on my grandparents. Should I ever travel to Hungary, I’ve got to remember not to go through Germany.
Just getting a post from you is probably a criminal offense there. Guilt by association, and all that.
🤔
Even the Third Reich didn’t wear hoods and masks when they went on raids. And they went to Hugo Boss for decent uniforms.
What’s funny, they are cosplaying tactical because nobody ever is armed and fights back. It’s al very amateur looking. And that Teutonic mind cannot grasp that the more you repress something, the more cool you make it.
At least 10 cop-soldiers, there to arrest one old guy in a bathrobe.
He must be scary.
This was painful to read.
Well written.
Just the topic and the obvious slippery slope which has been created.
How dumb people in pursuit of creating a safe space throw away basic rights like free speech, and even threaten a democratic process which relies on free speech to operate.
Of course those in power will see anyone in opposition to them as a threat and the bureaucracy is always loyal to those in power.
This is what happens when you do not understand the concept of limited government.
And these are the people we are pressuring to more than double their military spending...
That photo makes me think "who needs a high capacity magazine?"
Thanks, Tell It Right!
There’s a difference between these folks and the Nazis.
The Nazis weren’t too cowardly to show their faces.
The Nuremberg Trials resulted in the execution of many of these authoritarians. But like weeds, more have grown to replace them.
This sounds like the Third Reich!
Germany needs to do more to combat incipient Nazism! It isn’t just about the Jews!
Germany, France, Turkey, UK and maybe more are now islamist scum enablers. They should be booted out of NATO as enemies.
Bunch of cowardly bullies.
When nothing can be criticized everything will get worse.
Wasn’t this one of the countries touting ‘saving democracy’ re: Ukraine?
Yep. Frankly, I don’t buy the “old enough to die, old enough to vote.” nonsense. They tried the “old enough to drink” version and it didn’t work out so well.
Humans develop physically faster than they to intellectually/emotionally. Their body is ready for war at 18. Their mind isn’t ready for drinking and voting until a few years later. That’s just the way it is.
“Germany, France, Turkey, UK and maybe more are now islamist scum enablers.”
New York, Minnesota, Michigan...
The Germans are inclined to be like this.
The Germans like centralization of power - it does have some advantages.
The Germans are subordinating to authority and follow rules. They do not tend to side step these rules.
The Germans are trusting of authority - they respect the white lab coat, a title, etc.
They are a regimented society to this day.

This makes them easily become surfs with feudal like mentality, may it be serving a king or emperor, serving a Nazi regime, or serving a technocracy today.
