The move could shift long-standing practices of how and when children are immunized in the United States.
ATLANTA — The newly formed vaccine advisory committee handpicked by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that it would examine the cumulative effect of the childhood vaccine schedule and reevaluate hepatitis B immunization recommendations — moves that could shift long-standing practices of how and when children are immunized in the United States.
Kennedy, who previously founded an anti-vaccine group, has long called for an investigation into the number of shots children receive. Medical experts say Kennedy has falsely linked an increase in vaccines to a rise of chronic disease, but they note that more vaccines are available now to combat diseases and that his link has no basis in evidence. Medical experts and the federal government recommend the hepatitis B vaccine, saying it prevents the liver disease, which can be passed along at birth.
The announcement of the review of immunization schedules came during a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which makes recommendations to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on which vaccines should be recommended, for whom and whether they will be covered by health insurance.
Before the meeting, CDC staff members who work on vaccine safety were informed that Kennedy had appointed Lyn Redwood, a former leader of the anti-vaccine group Kennedy founded, Children’s Health Defense, to join the CDC’s vaccine safety office, according to one federal health official and three former health officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation.
Redwood did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the appointment. Andrew Nixon, an HHS spokesman, said he had no immediate comment. Children’s Health Defense CEO Mary Holland previously told The Washington Post that Redwood “has no...”

What’s to review? Just do away with it already.
If only you were in charge! You'd have everything done in five minutes!
THAT decision had to take 5 months???!!!
You seriously are advocating an end to childhood vaccinations? Why?
At this time kids, by government standards, are required to take something like 74 shots. Other than a few basic vaccines that is far too many. The number of shots at most should be about 5 which is what most of us had growing up in the 1950’s and 60’s.
...........” required to take something like 74 shots.
OMG, how do they live through all that?
My MD was against covid shots for me and never suggested any other shots for anything else. But he’s a GP and I’ve seen families with kids in his waiting room.
The MMR vaccine, which probably didn’t exist when you were a kid, requires a booster. The chickenpox vaccine prevents shingles later in life. The Hepatitis A and B vaccines have almost wiped out those illnesses. The DTAP vaccine requires three boosters.
So it’s a lot more than 5 or 6 even for the bare minimum to keep a child somewhat safe from infectious diseases. I will never understand how it has become conservative policy to ignore the public health victories of the 20th century.
*pausing to pray for God’s wisdom to shine in the results of the review*
Giving Hep B to an hours-old baby is crazy. You give vaccines for the threat.
Unless the people in the hospital have Hep B, there’s no threat that critical.
GOOD!
It’s time to slash and burn it. WAY too many shots at birth and the 2, 4, and 6 month ages.
No kid needs 74 shots
Because I, and many others, think that it is a fundamental freedom of human. Rings to not be forced to put foreign substances into their bodies. Do we not deserve any autonomy at all? Do we not, at a minimum, deserve autonomy over our own bodies and that of our children.
I am not advocating an end to childhood vaccines. If someone wants to get one then they should be free to do so. Just like they should be free to get a tattoo or body piercing. If they want to modify their God-given body, they should be allowed to do so. But no one should be forced to do so.
P
You need to weigh any benefits of the vaccines from the risks. Do you want to be the parent of the child who dies from the reaction? If they don’t die they might be paralyzed and in a wheelchair. These vaccines have risks, some now and some down the road.
Geez! How did we all survive before they created these vax protocols! When I was a kid the only vax we got were the forced smallpox shot and the sugar cube polio vax given to us at school without parent permission in the 1960’s. My baby sister who was 3 years old and did not receive the smallpox jab developed a form of smallpox that almost killed her. This was in Riverside, California. I use to be able to google the outbreak, but they have pretty much removed any reference to this occurring.
I was curious about the smallpox outbreak that affected your sister in the 60’s. Somehow I thought everybody had to be vaccinated for it then but maybe you got vaccinated before going to kindergarten. You’re lucky you didn’t get it!!
I went to Grok and it had no information. It said it would look further if it had more details, e.g. exact year. You’ll probably have more success. I did find this article.
