JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – More than a month after a devastating fire in the hourly parking garage at Jacksonville International Airport, the BMW believed to have sparked that fire has been removed from the garage.
A spokesperson with the Jacksonville Aviation Authority confirmed that a photo shared with News4JAX showing a fire-damaged vehicle being lowered by crane onto a tow truck is the BMW in question.
About 1,200 cars were parked in the garage at the time the fire started.
Nearly 50 cars were damaged, and hundreds of them had to be left there initially until drivers were contacted and told they could safely retrieve their vehicles.
The BMW will now be removed to a secure area and investigated by ATF agents and JAA’s insurance company as they work to determine the cause of the fire.
JAA officials estimated earlier this month that it could cost at least $38 million to repair the damage and those repairs could take at least 18 months.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
I was at the airport yesterday as they were bringing that car out. The front was completely destroyed.

Sorry my friend.....that ship has already sailed... a couple of times. Lol!
Good Point, I never really thought about that.
However, when heavy gauge wire is X amount per foot. The closer to the elevator shaft probably makes it less expensive to install.
“That headline sux”
News4jax is a cnn affiliate so...
The security video knows!
The author of the article used the term "believe to have" as in "BMW believed to have sparked devastating fire removed from JAX hourly garage."
It may not have been the vehicle, or it could be the vehicle and it's a hybrid.
That's likely due to the channels in the elevator towers being used to run the high voltage electrical lines, instead of digging new trenches for underground power lines to another area and building a whole new column to run the power lines up to the parking spaces.
And less digging into the concrete. And shutting down less of the garage to do it. They’re probably only doing it because government mandate anyway, so do it cheap and fast.

Realizing that would have required that I actually read through the comments!
I miss the old FR days when all the missing pieces were
added by the ‘Cliff Clavin’ freepers usually within 25-30
posts. Also sounds like they found some deep pockets
judging by the time and money involved.

Well my 1st Tacoma had a similar problem with the brights.
My son finally replaced/rewird with a toggle switch. The
worthless new switch was around $100 10-15 years back and
melted.
And this ladies and gentlemen/fellow Freepers is WHY is frequent this site.
There is always someone on here that knows more about it than ME! Therefore, I learn something something almost everyday.
As bad as bmw drivers are, Mercedes drivers are worse......with Tesla drivers being the all time award winning jackasses on the road today.....absolute and proper A-holes.
Thank you kindly.
You see a lot of those in a California parking lot.
