‘She’s Wrong’: Trump Directly Rebukes Tulsi Gabbard Amid Reports She’s on the Outs

President Donald Trump directly rebuked Tulsi Gabbard, his own director of national intelligence, during a Q&A with reporters on Friday afternoon amid reports that she’s an increasingly irrelevant figure within his administration.

After being asked by MSNBC’s Vaughn Hillyard about why he was considering a strike on Iran given his expressed opposition to the Bush administration’s war in Iraq, Trump stated that Iran had gathered “a tremendous amount of [nuclear] material.”

“What intelligence do you have that Iran is building a nuclear weapon? Your intelligence community has said they have no evidence that they are at this point,” followed up Hillyard.

“Well, then my intelligence community is wrong. Who in the intelligence community said that?” shot back Trump.

“Your director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard,” observed the reporter.

“She’s wrong,” replied Trump matter-of-factly.

The commander-in-chief’s dismissal of Gabbard comes just a few days after Politico reported that Gabbard was on the outs.

From its story on Trump’s disillusionment with his intel chief:

At 5:30 a.m. on June 10, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard tweeted a cryptic, three-minute video warning that “political elite and warmongers” are “carelessly fomenting fear and tensions between nuclear powers” — and that the world is “on the brink of nuclear annihilation.”

Trump saw the unauthorized video and became incensed, complaining to associates at the White House that she had spoken out of turn, according to three people familiar with the episode — two of them inside the administration and all granted anonymity to describe sensitive dynamics.

“I don’t think he dislikes Tulsi as a person … But certainly the video made him not super hot on her … and he doesn’t like it when people are off message,” one senior administration official told the outlet.

Vice President JD Vance, the leading isolationist voice inside the administration, sent an unprompted statement to Politico at the time that read: “Tulsi Gabbard is a veteran, a patriot, a loyal supporter of President Trump, and a critical part of the coalition he built in 2024.”

> With all of the lawfare & lies by the left we do not need distractions eminating from his own cabinet. She is free to disagree and argue her case privately.

That is quite true. She is famously and publicly forthright and fearless, which is fine when she's on her own, but when she is in service to the President she should keep some things private.

I would guess that when Trump has a few minutes to spare he'll call her in for a brief chat, maybe something along the lines of, "You can have a different opinion, a different assessment of a situation, that's all good, but give it to me first, privately. Don't let me hear about it from the frickin' media. Are we clear?"

I would guess she'll reply, "Yes, Sir." After all, she's military, he's her CinC.

Exactly.
When POTUS gave a different take she should have moved more quickly to line up with his statements and given specifics on her change in message, additional information etc.
She was not my favorite pick but I don’t see this as a game changer for her. She is stepping up to get on message and Trump will make that clear.
I am very impressed by folks like Bessent who consistently make the point that POTUS makes the policy and they don’t want to get ahead of him, declining to give personal opinions. That is how it should be done especially with such a vicious and aggressive media.

More likely the Biden Era Intel reports with Biden Administration conclusions haven't been purged from the system. Likely she was briefed using material readily available. She might also be naive enough to think she was dealing with professionals. Eight years of O’Bummer & four years of Biden made that a scarce breed. Even so it always should be remembered that collection, analysis & finalizing reports doesn't happen instantly. We may have no reliable HUMINT coming out of Iran. What HUMINT on Iran we get likely comes from foreign services who may give you good material but it will always have a self-serving spin.

A strategic point to make when it comes to Iran is the Mullahs want the bomb period exclamation point. Totally for religious reasons. Religion specifically 12’er Shia apocalyptism motivates them. They want to trigger an Shia Armageddon to bring the Mahdi. The modern Western analyst\policymaker have a hard time taking that seriously. They're trained with the idea that foreign counterparts\adversaries are rational actors. It's baffling to Westerners when this game theory approach doesn't hold. Closest modern parallel was the behavior of Imperial Japan's military.

The mullahs may cut a deal and swear on a stack of Korans they've given up bomb making. If they're still in power we will go through this again.

>>”Exactly. People criticizing Gabbard should review what she actually said. She is being misquoted and Trump is falling for it.”

I suspect Trump is basing his comment on more than just Tulsi’s public statement from March. He talks to her often, so I suspect if the reporter’s depiction of her position was out of line with what she’s been telling Trump behind closed doors, Trump would have said something to that effect and corrected the reporter.

You may be right. If they’re not in agreement she’ll be gone soon enough. Especially if he decides to get actively involved in the Iran campaign and she isn’t supportive.

Delivering a report to Senate Intel Committee is not speaking out of turn. Your hotel experience notwithstanding.

Trump should never rely on some press a*()& to tell him what his NSA chief said.

it would seem the intelligence community is lying to Gabbard through their teeth and she can’t figure that out ...

First, this is Mediaite -- everything they publish is agitprop intended to sow discontent on the right.

Second, the article fails to mention that the quote from Gabbard happened in March. When the reporter told President Trump that the comment came from Gabbard, he didn't include that it was from a Congressional hearing in March.

We know that back in March, the Senate was slow-walking Trump confirmations. Gabbard was confirmed as DNI early, on February 12; the Congressional appearance was on March 25. The Signal App "scandal" that cost Mike Waltz his job as National Security Advisor began on March 11, two weeks before Gabbard's appearance before Congress.

We know that there were Biden loyalists hiding in plain sight within the Trump administration, and that Trump's appointees have been slowly rooting them out. There was a story just today that a State Department Visa Specialist was helping illegal aliens exploit loopholes in the law.

So, while I agree with your first part that the intelligence community is lying to Gabbard, I think she has figured it out by now, given that the quote occurred three months ago.

Mediaite wants to reignite that fire now to take advantage of the ongoing crisis in Iran.

I imagine that President Trump was angry. He values loyalty extremely high.

“...his vitriol towards her, Rand Paul, Tucker Carlson, and so on is getting ridiculous...”

Your definition of vitriol must be different from mine. Vitriol is hurled, spit out, vindictive.

Your problem is that you took the headline at face value. He did not rebuke her; he merely said she was wrong, and he has said that before. I am sure he is irritated about it.

I have wondered why she would say that before a Congressional committee in such a concrete manner. She has no way of knowing that and the IC doesn’t either, which is where she got that.

Trump said Carlson called him up and apologized.

Rand Paul is a grandstanding gadfly; always has been, always will be.

If you really want to hear some unhinged venom and vitriol, go listen to Mark Levin. I think he has lost his mind. He has fashioned a horseshoe line graph to describe the positions of the ones he is having a pissing contest with. On one leg is the Klansmen, white suspremacists, and he positions Steve Bannon there. On the other leg are the Marxist, Carlson, etc. and he says they all come together at the bend.

Wilhelm Reich had a similar graph many years ago, but he had the extremes as Marxists and Facists meeting in the middle.

I have lost respect for all of them. I thought they were thoughtful, disciplined people, but they are no different from eight graders.

Where is the video? With AI you can’t believe ANY video anymore.

Trump was WRONG to say Tulsi was wrong before talking to her.
