Ten or twenty bucks a month will keep this thing going. I've donated anonymously back since 1997 when I found this site. When this the only place on the interwebs reporting on Xlinton's malfeasance.
True, the site is now dominated by crippled, angry, old men, and fat, blue-haired old bitties whose nipples drag on the floor when they walk.
Aside from all that, please consider donating to Free Republic.
I've set up an automatic payment, by check, through my online banking/bill pay. Mailed to:
Free Republic, LLC PO Box 9771 Fresno, CA 93794
Because the online payment system FOOKIN SUCKS!!!! Jim Robinson doesn't give a shit about how hard it is to donate online. Impossible.
Just send a check or do an auto-pay monthly to the address in Fresno. Let's keep this thing rolling!
The Boomers are dying in swarms. Gen-X needs to step up to the plate and make sure places like this stay around. So Gen-Y and Gen-Z have a place to find news and information.
Shoot. Make your coffee at home for ten cent a cup, and send the other twenty dollars to Free Republic.
I know you're here. Every day. This kind of entertainment and news HAS to be worth a dollar a day, right?
I’ve paid hundreds of dollars every year, for many years.
I used to think that FreeRepublic was a great resource.
Lately, I’ve had some reservations.
Oh, yes. I am going to check in on this thread later for entertainment purposes alone.
I use PayPal.No problems.
Hey! PayPal is for people who can’t handle technology! Don’t you know that?
The people who don’t use PayPal have already got this completely figured out...or at least some of them do...:)
I’m neither crippled nor angry nor old. I can’t speak for the ladies but some do seem to talk a lot about Mentholatum Deep Heating Rub.
There have been at least a couple of threads recently about the decline of Free Republic.
One Freeper said he was angry at the discord and personal insults that have creeped onto this site. And he or she said, he or she would never contribute to a site, just to be attacked and belittled for sharing honest opinions.
There’s anecdotal evidence that a number of longtime Freepers have disappeared from this site. We don’t know why they left. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the general tone around here has driven some folks away.
Generatio X, generation Z, millenials, generation LMNOP, they all run together and are meaningless to name as they are not dstinct in time.
Overt racism, religious strife, nonsense posts by people who just want to seem ‘cool’ and part of the ‘hive mind’ - there are lots of reasons why intelligent and serious people might want to leave.
It’s just not what it began as, or what it was for a long time.
I think you will be sadly disappointed. Most Freepers have already taken their melatonin and put their ear buds in for some Perry Como or Mel Torme.
Quit yer belly aching. You are a Debby Downer on any thread about contributions.
You KNOW you don’t ever summon the latchkey kids. But you did and that means shit is getting real. So here I am.
Doing an auto-monthly. It’s not much, but it’s something. Maybe it’ll help. If nothing else, it’s a “whatever” to the folks who don’t help at all.
I’ve never been on any thread about contributions before.
I’ve just been a generous contributor.
Amen-the poster needs a class in Basic Fundraising 101-he/she apparently did not consider that insulting Boomers, Millenials, GenZ or any other fellow conservatives who are not part of Gen X with ASSumptions regarding their physical appearance, condition or mindset is not the way to increase donations, win friends or influence people-it is just snarky and offensive...
I donate on the rare occasions when I have a few extra dollars, but not lately-the barely-disguised racial/ethnic slurs and the personal insults tossed out by a few FReepers on a regular basis over every difference of opinion have made it less than pleasant to read many threads, much less comment on them. I do wish people would actually research the info presented before going into a panic or a tantrum over obvious click bait...
I’ve never had a problem donating with PayPal, either-works fine...
I live in the bluest of blue states. Without FR, I would only have conservative contacts with close friends or a random stranger who opens up to reveal himself, as happened the other day at the airport as I waited in the “cell phone lot” to pick someone up, when I burned an hour shooting the breeze with a Marine.
FR is my jumping off point on news every day. I can go to dozens of links on one particular subject or incident, read the good and the bad, observe and participate in the debate, and see correct opinions crowdsourced up to acceptance, and faulty opinions crowdsourced off threads.
It isn’t perfect, but for me, I can use my brain and help figure things out. Can’t do that by watching the MSM, can you?
Yes. There are lots of elbows and high sticks here on FR. I contribute to the incivility more often than I like, and when I do, I try to apologize publicly and unequivocally on that thread without engaging in rationalization. I have been here more than 20 years now, and there are probably five people on this site I simply avoid interacting with because of this animosity.
But it is valuable to me. I have met dozens of Freepers in person (Thanks to the DC Chapter and the Free Republic Convention I went to) and am traveling to DC next month to spent a week or so visiting with a couple of them I know. I had a Freeper in Vermont invite me up to share some black bear stew with her, but when I went up, I was unable to reach her. She was in her Seventies, and shot the bear herself from her back deck...:). Turned out she fell down the stairs, and passed away after that. Many here lamented her loss.
But the interesting thing to me is-those people I have met from this site in person are exactly the same in real life that I perceived them to be from interacting with them on this forum. They might not look as I envisioned them, but the inside person is EXACTLY as I thought they would be.
And those of you out there, as Billy Crystal says in his “Mahvelous” Fernando routine...”and you know who you are!”
This site is worth it. To me, at least. I recently got into it with a Freeper who lamented that it was all over for our country and that we should give up trying to save it.
That really got my dander up, and I got extremely angry, because I am by nature a hot head, but I sure as hell am not ready to give up on this country that has given me more than I can ever give back to it, and is still a beacon to people all over the world.
I just could not stomach the defeatism.
But that could not justify my incivility. I make a personal goal of never saying something to someone here that I wouldn’t say face to face with them. It is a goal, and I occasionally fail to achieve that goal.
When I apologized a week or two later, the Freeper graciously accepted my apology, but said something I very much disagreed with: “Nobody takes anything seriously that is said online.”
I very much take seriously what people say, because it affects my perception of issues and events. It makes a difference. To deny that means nothing you say to anyone is of any significance, and I don’t accept that.
So, yes. This site is worth it.
I’m very glad that it works for you.
It did for me, too, for almost three decades.
LOL, I am already not disappointed!
Personally, when it comes to that kind of thing, I am a Henry Mancini follower...:)
Thank you for your response.
