Tomorrow is Juneteenth, which commemorates the last group of Freed Slaves to learn of the Emancipation Proclamation.

It's also the Anniversary of my "leaving that other site (GOP/USA)" because I had dubbed Obama "The Lyin' King". The rather stodgy GOPe site was annoyed that I was "disrespecting the office of the President".

I also expressd distrust of Mitt Romney, and was castigated for that. I will not stay where I'm not welcome.

And so, I signed up with FR, and chose the name "Left That Other Site". Some folks think that the site I left was DU, but, no, it was a supposedly conservative site.

I was instantly welcomed here, and found my home. My FReeper FRiends are closer to me than my own family, in many ways.

Me too. My 20th year FR anniversary just went by (June 11). I declined to do a vanity thread about it, although I did consider doing one. When the time came, I felt I didn't have a particularly exciting story to tell. Maybe I will when I hit 25.

So I'm glad you did -- like many others on this thread, I wondered what "that other site" was. I enjoy your comments, keep it up!

Instead of Juneteenth, we should celebrate December 18th. (the date that the 13th. Amendment was finally ratified and certified). Slavery was still legal in some parts of the United States (Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, and Delaware) during the period between June 19th and December 18th.
