Just 36 hours after the initial impact to the overpass, SCDOT has reopened traffic on I-20 in both directions at mile marker 13 in Aiken County.
South Carolina Secretary of Transportation Justin Powell said, "I want to thank our crews, our contractors and our partners in law enforcement for working around the clock on this major emergency response effort. Thanks to their immediate mobilization and diligent work, we opened the interstate in a record amount of time."
The bridge on Old Vaucluse Road was a total loss following a bridge strike and fire and now SCDOT will begin expediting a bridge replacement plan. In the meantime, the interstate is fully reopened and traffic is moving.
Drivers in the area should continue to travel with caution as crews will continue to work to remove traffic control devices along the detour routes.
B-roll links for media of paving operations and the reopening are available here: SCDOT I-20 Bridge Aiken Broll – Opening Day.
Compare and contrast with the clown show in Providence RI on the (much more trafficked) I95 bridge replacement.

Or...the total incompetence and MASSIVE over spending that will be the Key Bridge in Baltimore.
The Fridge lives in that area. Can it hold him up?
I guess this is the second time in history.
