If you search “shrimp Jesus” on Facebook, you might encounter dozens of images of artificial intelligence (AI) generated crustaceans meshed in various forms with a stereotypical image of Jesus Christ.
Some of these hyper-realistic images have garnered more than 20,000 likes and comments. So what exactly is going on here?
The “dead internet theory” has an explanation: AI and bot-generated content has surpassed the human-generated internet. But where did this idea come from, and does it have any basis in reality?
What is the dead internet theory?
The dead internet theory essentially claims that activity and content on the internet, including social media accounts, are predominantly being created and automated by artificial intelligence agents.
These agents can rapidly create posts alongside AI-generated images designed to farm engagement (clicks, likes, comments) on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. As for shrimp Jesus, it appears AI has learned it’s the current, latest mix of absurdity and religious iconography to go viral.
But the dead internet theory goes even further. Many of the accounts that engage with such content also appear to be managed by artificial intelligence agents. This creates a vicious cycle of artificial engagement, one that has no clear agenda and no longer involves humans at all.

People search for things on Facebook?
AI is a plague. It is all over the net. Everything.
I agree. I am a tech enthusiast and I have come to absolutely hate it. It will be running our lives before too long.
Think of a crazy ex and a howitzer.
Could this article be AI generated?
Sounds like a digital circle jerk
“Could this article be AI generated?”
Could be, never know anymore. But I have been following Jake for awhile now and don’t think so.
It isn’t being built human centric, but as a replacement for humans.
Don't worry Dave, everything is OK. Can I sing you a nice song?
And because of that it will make being human insignificant. “Humanity” will become a myth as a result because there will be no way to tell or not. Everyone and everything will be suspect and untrusted real or not.
I wish folks would wake up and see how bad this road is really going to be.
No worries here.;^)
Just ran it through the AI detector at Copyleaks...
says ...NO, percent AI generated 0%
“Could this article be AI generated?”
AI articles are easy to recognize. It starts out with a basic story line, develops the story line, continues to develop the story, and exhaustingly continues to develop the story line... and about halfway down the article the reader might recognize what they’re actually talking about or where they are actually referring to.
AI never gives it up until you go through about 15 pop-ups.
If the reader finds themselves scrolling almost to the end of the article to get the INFO referred to in the title... that’s probably AI.
I think the threat of AI makes Christ’s coming much more sooner.
On the other hand, this AI problem may chase human discourse back to the person-to-person level. Imagine a return to hand written letters, families putting their phones down while at the dinner table, people going to conferences and forums, so on. I enjoyed the pre-Internet days more than recent times.
I feel that the abomination of desolation will be a mocking of God’s creeation with some sort of AI / robot - human - animal hybrid. That seems to be what the satanic globalists are up to in their quest for eternal life.
They are so intelligent (or so they think) but they are too dumb to accept the fact that all they have to do for eternal life is to accept Jesus as their Savior and repent from their sins.
“Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe you died on the cross for my sins and rose again. Please forgive me, come into my heart, and be my Lord and Savior.”
We are fast approaching the time where we can not trust what we see and hear on a screen.
The rise of the Mintat is beginning.
