Wouldn’t it be awful. That’s how John Stamos felt having to break it to Mike Love that his Beach Boys bandmate — and cousin Brian Wilson — died at 82 on Wednesday. The “Full House” actor, who has been an honorary Beach Boy playing drums and guitar with the band for 40 years, was traveling with Love when he received the heartbreaking news.
“I was with Mike, I got off the plane, and I got the text,” Stamos, 61, exclusively told The Post on the red carpet of the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Thursday before he enshrined Love at New York’s Marriott Marquis.“I was like, ‘Oh boy, I guess I better [tell him].’ I said, ‘Mike, your cousin passed away,’ and his face went blank.”
“And we sat in the car for 2½ hours or so … he didn’t say one word,” he continued. “And I didn’t ask him anything, ask him how he was feeling. I knew how he was feeling.” Indeed, Stamos — having grown up idolizing the Beach Boys long before he got to know and play with the ‘60s trailblazers of the California sound — understood the profound loss that frontman Love, 84, was processing about the group’s mastermind.

Condolences.
Makes me SUPER nostalgic as a Californian born in later generation listening both to them and The Eagles (“California Girls” and “Hotel California”) — any song of their era really (the Mamas & the Papas “California Dreamin’ ”) pertaining to California particular.
Sad. Mike Love was in the habit of suing Cousin Brian every few years or for various and sundry ways Mike thought Brian owed him money, but at the end of the day they were family ... and close friends in their youth.
Love collaborated on a lot of songs from 1962-1967 but never got any money or even credit . One reason for the suits .
“In 1992, Love, along with Jardine and several Wilson family members, sued Brian for defamation regarding claims made in his 1991 memoir Wouldn’t It Be Nice: My Own Story. The case was settled out of court by publisher HarperCollins, who awarded Love $1.5 million. “
Love always seemed like a grifter and he was just a singer and not one of the good ones. Watch them live back in the day, he just stands there with a tambourine like a dope.
No fan of Love but he had grounds for at least some of the suits he filed . Jardine , another member , was also in on the defamation suit .
Do you just post random articles? I counted 10 in the last hour.
You’re overstating things a bit. Mike Love’s names was left off the credits for some songs (California Girls, Help Me Rhonda et) but not all. There were many songs for which he was credited at the time. Mike’s early ‘90s suit, victory and settlement resulted in a payout to him and restoration of credits... even on songs like “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” which Brian’s co-author Tony Asher testified that Mike contributed no music or lyrics, other than perhaps “scat vocals” (ba-ba-ba type stuff).
Mike also sued Brian for silly stuff like Brian’s “Smile” Tour in 2004, which Mike claimed co-opted Beach Boys’ intellectual property... which was rich because Mike didn’t even like Van Dyke Parks’ lyrics when the songs were new in 1966-67.
It’s a good thing I never made money or became famous. I’d go mad over all the grifting, suits, and drama my associates, friends, and family would drag me into.
Yes. She's our very own version of the National Enquirer.
The group that, in a way, survived for sixty years, which included Love, made some of the best music of the '60s. Brian Wilson was a musical genius and was responsible for a great part of their success.
Like all of us, Brian and some members had bad demons that impacted their success and their lives.
Thank you for the great memories you helped us make, Beach Boys.
We'll miss you, Brian!

“Enshrined”?
