Dramatic footage has caught the extraordinary moment the wing of a £15million Russian warplane fell off in the middle of a Ukraine attack mission.
The attack jet crashed after flying in a pair over Ukraine's Donetsk region, with the pilot miraculously cheating death by ejecting before his aircraft fell to the ground.
The doomed Su-25 warplane is seen on the video turning and falling out of the sky, crashing into a field.
At first it appeared it had been shot down, with Ukrainian media claiming it had possibly been the victim of 'friendly fire' by an unguided missile from its partner plane.
The footage shows heat trap flares and possible missiles from the Su-25s.
Yet experts on both sides now believe downing near Soledar had a different cause, related to Vladimir Putin's use of war planes that are 40 years old - or even more antiquated.
While there are flames and white smoke as it gets into trouble, there is no explosion, which would be expected if there was a direct missile hit.
The right wing is seen falling from the stricken aircraft - and the pilot's parachute is visible after ejecting.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Must have had Boeing DEI employees doing the regularly scheduled maintenance.
Pulling g’s!
Air India.
“Must have had Boeing DEI employees doing the regularly scheduled maintenance.”
Stupid comment.
If it was hit by an on guided missile from the other plane, that missile might not necessarily have exploded unless it first traveled the requisite distance to arm.
Still might be a missile impact that damaged a wing.
Agreed.
A lot Russian aircraft are at or past their airframe lifetimes.
Flying on a wing and a prayer.
Spot On.
Even the president gave an eye roll over Boeing’s poor administrative state.
Awe-filled history of Boeing was plundered by the hate America regime.
Two things:
1. Even though the jet was pulling G’s, it’s difficult to believe even poor maintenance is to blame.
2. I can’t help myself, but I am always glad when a pilot survives an event like this, even if he is otherwise a true enemy.
The Su-25 is designed primarily for ground attack missions. Similar in role to our own A-10. One online source says they were in production from 1978-2017.
Metal fatigue, poor maintenance, extreme maneuvers, friendly fire… one or a combination of those factors would naturally be suspect if the Ukrainians didn’t tag it.
Britain has gone full loon for Euro Communism. Perusing the fighter film leads to UKR.
Their comment section is full of the mouth breathing loser side, who are back to “washing machines” usage to describe the fighter jets and missilebuttons. already kicked their butzzz. 🥴
Wish they'd report that they had captured and detained him (P.O.W. camp).
Regards,
In the 1970s, Russia was using WWII planes as passenger planes and every rivet rattled and shook or had long been lost. Are they still hiring grandma’s to climb on the wings to eyeball the refueling?
Bkmk
I’m starting to believe that the only difference between the modern Russian military and the Iraqi military is that the Russians have nukes.
Even in service in foreign air forces like India, Russian military aircraft are prone to catastrophic failures due to less robust design and build quality. After the fall of the Soviet Union, Russia’s civilian airlines upped their fleet quality by buying western models.
