TYLER, Texas — The Tyler Police Department released body camera footage showing the moment a police officer’s gun discharged during a struggle with a suspect, KLTV reported.
According to the department, officers responded to a reported theft at a Dollar General on May 11. Two suspects fled the scene on foot. One was detained without incident. The second allegedly refused to comply with commands and continued trying to flee.
An arrest affidavit states that the suspect twisted away from the officer’s grasp and began to run before tripping. A struggle ensued on the ground in which she allegedly thrashed and bit the officer in an attempt to resist arrest.
According to police, the suspect then grabbed the officer’s holstered gun and managed to unholster it partially, firing a shot in the process. No injuries were reported. The officer responded with what police described as a “closed-hand strike” to prevent further escalation.
A second officer arrived to assist. Body camera footage, along with video recorded by a bystander and shared with local media, captured portions of the incident.
The Tyler Patrolman’s Association called the incident “an extremely dangerous act that could have ended in tragedy.” In a statement, association president Tyler Pride said the officers showed “incredible restraint in a life-threatening moment” and urged the public not to rush to judgment as the investigation continues.
The suspect was booked into the Smith County Jail on multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated assault of a public servant, resisting arrest, evading arrest or detention, harassment of a public servant and possession of a controlled substance. A full internal investigation is underway.

The face of FAFO regret. Video at link.
Yes Yogi… them again.
The Fatigue is real…
Closed-hand strike….Good!🤣
Any response to a crime reported at a Dollar General should involve the SWAT team in riot gear. Maybe even the military. You know it isn't going to be resolved peacefully.
Grab a cop’s gun over a shoplifting arrest…
Very Einsteinian, this one.
PAVEMENT APE
bitten police officer will need a tetanus vaccination if he’s not up to date, and maybe a rabies vaccination just to be safe ...
Dindunuffin.
He (?) will probably be charged with misdemeanor petty theft, pay a fine, maybe do some "community service", and go on with his(?) life ... perhaps a little wiser.
The other genius is going to do serious time.
She looks like a fine, upstanding citizen.
LOL ... The Face of FAFO.
Perfect.
the good old days with a truncheon or even a black jack. Got their attention at least.
I, for one, am happy that we
FINALLY found a wife for Laz
Laz, she’s a smart shopper.
Well, not smart.
Well, not a shopper.
She gets you stuff real cheap like.
Except for the bail, that is.
Why do the black women always just shriek one sentence over and over again when they are resisting arrest?
Seriously ugly woman, inside and out. Off to the slammer with her.
“Laz, she’s a smart shopper.”
LOL!
😃😄😅🤣🤣🤣😜😜
Some people make their point with volume, not with substance. Which is also how they absorb information (believing whatever is told to them loudly and repeatedly, not what can be verified for accuracy).
Sounds like an excellent way to potentially find oneself on the business end of a mag dump from multiple officers and from multiple directions.
She should consider herself fortunate. Probably should also consider not breaking the law, too, but you know… Yogi.
