Amid ongoing protests in response to ICE raids and arrests in Los Angeles, 700 Marines in California have been ordered to assist, and they're expected to arrive over the next 24 hours, a U.S. official confirmed.
The Marines are from the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines at Twentynine Palms, California, whom U.S. Northern Command had said Sunday were on a "prepared to deploy status" if the Defense Department needed them.
Minutes before the Marines' deployment was confirmed, President Donald Trump was asked by ABC News if he planned on sending Marines to LA, and he said, "We'll see what happens."
"I mean, I think we have it very well under control," Trump said. "I think it would have been a very bad situation. It was heading in the wrong direction. It's now heading in the right direction." -ABC News' Luis Martinez and Karen Travers National Guard is armed but no bullets in chamber
The National Guardsmen on active duty in Los Angeles are carrying weapons but don't have rounds in the chamber, and they aren't using rubber bullets or pepper spray, according to a U.S. official.

What ever happened to water cannons? They used to be effective for crowd/riot control.
++++++++++++++++
I have been asking that for years. Maybe someone here knows..
I know, different situation.
I think what happened in Beirut was they weren't allowed to have loaded magazines.
Insert loaded magazine with the bolt locked back, and you just have to press the bolt release...
If you look closely at the CA NG, they are carrying magazines in their pouches. My Army friend said it is against regulations empty mags in their pouches.
“I don’t like it.”
Me, either. It should be 7,000, not 700.
I hope Trump and Hegseth are not fooling themselves into believing that 2,000 National Guardsmen and 700 Marines can suppress the Communist and gangster alliance thar has effectively taken over Los Angeles. An overwhelming show of force must occur, as Kennedy did against the segregationists in 1962. Additionally, a massive military presence will be a deterrent to incidents like Kent State, when the Ohio National Guardsmen were being surrounded by Communist led students and thus opened fire, killing four.
So, where do you carry a magazine after you empty it?
The NG and Marines need to turn off the Internet in LA or at least use localized jammers. The terrorist are getting Intel and instructions from their phones.
Alternative would be to monitor the apps they’re using
Fire at will.
Will! Get down!
A dump pouch.
I would like to see some mostly peaceful drone strikes to disperse the rioters.
“The National Guardsmen on active duty in Los Angeles are carrying weapons but don’t have rounds in the chamber, and they aren’t using rubber bullets or pepper spray, according to a U.S. official.”
So their job is to provide more targets for the rioters.
It is a joke.
During my time in the Army and National Guard I had two full 20-round magazines on me at all times I carried a rifle - even the one time I stood guard at a German base entrance while Red Army Faction sympathizers threw rocks and bottles at us and we were ordered to do so without ammo.
That was some training from the last Vietnam veterans still in the service then. “Learn the manual but remember what we tell you if you really want to survive”. They lived by the old fashioned notion of Lead By Example. Bless their souls.
(Marine with “No rounds in the chamber”? That does not happen ever.)
It is BS. The Ohio National Guard at Kent State were allowed live ammo and fixed bayonets. Why can’t these Marines?
“What ever happened to water cannons? They used to be effective for crowd/riot control.”
Water hoses and dogs have both lost favor because of the remembered optics of their use against agitators in the South during the 1960s.
So too the use of less-than-lethal cattle prods. The use of horses has made something of a comeback.
ROFL!
If the Marines killed one of these losers I am sure it would really upset a troll such as yourself.
Read the post more carefully. That is EXACTLY what was said. They are not “CHAMBERED” and are not using rubber bullets. Kind of clear to me they have ammo, just that were told not to chamber unless and until ordered to do so.
Then, why send them?
