Even wars have rules. They don't stop soldiers killing each other but they're intended to make sure that civilians caught up in the fighting are treated humanely and protected from as much danger as possible. The rules apply equally to all sides.
If one side has suffered a brutal surprise attack that killed hundreds of civilians, as Israel did on 7 October 2023, it does not get an exemption from the law. The protection of civilians is a legal requirement in a battle plan.
That, at least, is the theory behind the Geneva Conventions. The latest version, the fourth, was formulated and adopted after World War Two to stop such slaughter and cruelty to civilians from ever happening again.
At the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva (ICRC) the words "Even Wars Have Rules" are emblazoned in huge letters on a glass rotunda.
The reminder is timely because the rules are being broken.
Getting information from Gaza is difficult. It is a lethal warzone. At least 181 journalists and media workers have been killed since the war started, almost all Palestinians in Gaza, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. Israel won't let international news teams into Gaza.
Since the best way to check controversial and difficult stories is first hand, that means the fog of war, always hard to penetrate, is as thick as I have ever experienced in a lifetime of war reporting.
It is clear that Israel wants it to be that way. A few days into the war I was part of a convoy of journalists escorted by the army into the border communities that Hamas had attacked, while rescue workers were recovering the bodies of Israelis from smoking ruins of their homes, and Israeli paratroopers...

I have never seen a conflict that was so starkly good vs evil yet the debased leftists are not at all shy about pretending black is white.
When an entire segment of people operates w/o a moral compass both muslim terrorism & leftist ideology are the result.
BBC is now in negative credence and credibility territory after its fake “Israel lured people with aid and killed them with tanks” story.
The truth is Hamas attacked Gazans and Gazans attacked Hamas because Hamas steals the aid and resells it.
The rational at the time was that many more millions would have died on both sides in a prolonged conflict. War is not kind, it is pragmatic (with competent commanders).
Americans are totally ignorant of the case of civilian deaths in Gaza. The primary source of civilian death reporting comes from the Gaza Ministry of Health, which is controlled by Hamas.
But they won't because their hatred of the Jews is so deeply ingrained as to be almost genetic.
Agreed. And don't forget that "journalists" used their homes to hide hostages.
This 25 minute video explains the connection between the historical Philistines and today’s Palestinians.
I know some people take issue with Jonathan Cahn, but his knowledge of history is amazing. He also uses accounts from the OT detailing how the Philistines behaved. NOTHING has changed in thousands of years.

“ A huge crime Israel committed was the murder of our sailors on the USS Liberty while clearly flying a visible American flag back in 1967.”
That has absolutely nothing to do with what Israel is doing today.
Nothing.

I agree with him that the word "Philistine" "Palestine" are connected. Palestine is what the Greeks and Romans called the area, in reference to the Philistines.
But today's Palestinians aren't descendants of the Philistines. The Philistines were related to the ancient Greeks (some say a branch away from the Greeks, similar to Anglo Americans moving away from England). Ancient Philistine pottery and other things with art work attest to that. Today's Palestinians are descendants of mostly Arabs who moved to Israel in the early 20th century.
Nothing?
They both involve war crimes. The attacks on Gaza are collective punishment. The attack on the USS Liberty was to prevent the crew from exposing the slaughter of troops who had already surrendered.
Today's Israelis are descendants of Europeans, not Canaanites.
“ The attacks on Gaza are collective punishment.”
No it is not. Hamas is still killing Israeli troops and hiding among civilians. That’s a war crime in and of itself.
“ The attack on the USS Liberty was to prevent the crew from exposing the slaughter of troops who had already surrendered.”
We did the same thing to SS troops in 1945. I wouldn’t have cared then and I don’t care now.
If the residents of Gaza want this to stop they can make it happen. Stop resisting, free the hostages, and hand over every last Hamas member to the Israelis.
Until then they have no one to blame but themselves.
L
That wasnt a crime, that was a mistake.
The ship was in a war zone.
Yes and no. Today's Israelis (mainly called Ashkenazi Jews) are, if I understand it correctly, descendants of Jacob (the dude that God renamed Israel) with some European blood mixed in (centuries of living in Europe during the Diaspora). It'd be like someone insisting on calling me German or Cherokee, both of which I have some DNA from, while saying I shouldn't be called Anglo (which would be wrong since I'm majority Anglo). Likewise, it's more appropriate to refer to the Israelis as a Semantic people (descendants of Jacob's ancestor Shem) than it is to insist they be called European (a minor portion of their ancestry).
More antisemitic propaganda from liptard jew hater Rand Fan.
???
Turn over hostages that others are holding?
Got it. And you should be charged for not stopping the riots in Los Angeles... and for murders in Chicago. Let's also hold you accountable for fentanyl smuggled across the border. Because you're a U.S. citizen and are responsible for other civilians.
I’m not giving aid, comfort, and shelter to the murderers in Chicago.
The people in Gaza are.
Bit of a difference there, Scooter.

>> vaporizing Japanese babies in the blink of an eye is fine?
It’s not fine, it was necessary although regrettable collateral damage inflicted upon a determined, ruthless, brutal, immoral aggressor.
Now write me an essay analyzing the number of excess Japanese civilian deaths that would have resulted from the alternative to Japanese surrender: invasion of Japan.
The IRS reports otherwise, Scooter. You're paying for it and should be held responsible for it.
Kudos to you for your extensive intel showing that every last man, woman, and child, both Muslim and Christian, are giving aid, comfort, and shelter to terrorists. The three-year-olds are the worst offenders.
