Slavery Unreckoned

Political activists on the left approach slavery as a historical phenomenon in a highly selective way, focusing on the transatlantic slave trade while ignoring, if not tacitly accepting, the existence of entire slave populations in countries under Marxist tyranny.

Whether naive or ignorant, leaving apathy aside, modern man associates the notion of “slavery” with either Roman households and gladiatorial games or plantation management in the South. For the older generations, moral education found dramatic support in the TV series “Roots” (1977). By now, only a few have personally experienced the division of public transportation and benches, etc. by “color” — a shameful reminiscence of slavery and racial discrimination.

We have been taught in school that slavery is evil. As written in the U.S. Declaration of Independence (1776), “all men are created equal”. Of course, nobody should own another man in the same way that he owns a horse or a cow. It is fundamentally incompatible with a Christian attitude towards life. Judging human dignity based on skin color is as immoral as it is stupid. So far, so good.

In the context of a post-Soviet Marxist revival, however, dramatically reinforced by the George Floyd affair, which elevated a habitual criminal to martyrdom, “white” Westerners have been pressured to do penance in recent decades. As if personally responsible for decisions made by those in power centuries ago, they are expected to tolerate “reciprocal discrimination” presented as “positive action” and make reparations for sins of the past. If they stand up for themselves and protest against revisionist absurdities, they risk being accused of “privilege blindness”, etc. (Marxist conspiracy theorists traditionally allude to oppressive “structures” into which only the ideologically initiated have full insight.)

Like bestial, cruel, and undignified treatment of our fellow men in general, slavery in one form or another

Slavery to the state is still slavery.

The left only recognizes sexual assaults among Catholic organizations while ignoring the much larger and more widespread sexual assaults taking place in public schools.

Most reporting on sexual assaults in public schools centers around the hot, female teacher with a young man even though homosexual pedophilia is a much larger problem.

The American Republic way is better. Allow people to think they are free and tax them at every turn to support the guberment. Income taxes, property taxes, sales tax, gas tax, Ownership taxes, and then if there is any left over Estate taxes.
People do not understand that every process a product goes through from mining the materials, manufacture, transportation, and retail of that item has taxes added at every step.

Thanks for posting. It's a reminder that the slavery the left focuses on is not only in the past, but is small fry compared to slavery and mass slaughter done in other parts of the world.

Here's a reminder of just the Transatlantic portion of the of just the African slave trade. Look at the angelic Hispanic nations that got more black slaves than the U.S.

The moslems castrated their African Slaves. That is why there are no descendants of them in the Middle East today.

Looks to me like the Caribbeaners and crap future immigrant freeloaders living below the border should be paying “reparations” to the descendants of descendants of the descendants who were Caribbeaner and Central and South American “slaves”. American taxpayers didn’t have anything to do with liberal BS below the border. All we did was fight a friggin war to end slavery in America. It’s the American taxpayers who should be getting reparations. Everyone in this hemisphere with black skin IS NOT A DESCENDENT OF A FORMER SLAVE!!! The largest percentage of them are frauds, extortionists and thieves.

How about the slavery of indigenous Americans by Hispanics?

It was called “peonage” and specifically addressed in the amendment concerning slavery. It is slavery by another name.

And yet peonage persisted here in New Mexico until shortly before WWII — and persists today in Mexico.

Granted. Which makes it easier for Communist and other anti-Christian, anti-Western “academics” to deny it ever happened.

Not my circus, not my clowns.

I’m not Hispanic and never lived in New Mexico.

Africa was the cradle of African slavery. From there it was exported to other places under the false premise that it would result in good things.

This still rankles me.

My wife is 100% Mescalero Apache and we live about 100 yards from the edge of the reservation. (My wife, a doctor, swore she would never live there again after the Army. So this is as close as we get.)

Despite basically being a Viking genetically, I grew up here and most of my friends and relatives are either in the tribe or married into it. It is my circus.

As an aside, indigenous Americans are the most Republican voting block in the USA. Giant Trump flags on the rez.

The Portuguese were out to make a buck.

And Africa had nothing else to sell.
