How about the slavery of indigenous Americans by Hispanics?

It was called “peonage” and specifically addressed in the amendment concerning slavery. It is slavery by another name.

And yet peonage persisted here in New Mexico until shortly before WWII — and persists today in Mexico.

Not my circus, not my clowns.

I’m not Hispanic and never lived in New Mexico.

My wife is 100% Mescalero Apache and we live about 100 yards from the edge of the reservation. (My wife, a doctor, swore she would never live there again after the Army. So this is as close as we get.)

Despite basically being a Viking genetically, I grew up here and most of my friends and relatives are either in the tribe or married into it. It is my circus.

As an aside, indigenous Americans are the most Republican voting block in the USA. Giant Trump flags on the rez.
