Surprise: everything is expensive.

That seems to be especially true in Illinois. At the very last minute over the weekend, Illinois passed their budget for the next fiscal year. Major elements of it included adding a tax to online sports betting and tobacco tax.

Not every part of the budget passed since it came down to the 11th hour. Besides issues involving Chicagoland transit, there was another part of the proposal that restaurant allies are calling the "pizza tax".

The bill would include a $1.50 delivery tax (on food, Amazon deliveries, etc.) on anything delivered with a motor vehicle. It's being called the "climate fee", the proceeds from which would go to Chicago area transit (80% of the fund) and downstate public transportation. It's coming around as post-COVID era funding is getting ready to expire.

A lot of people I know in this state will just accept this. As they accept the potholes, the corruption and the state and City being in massive debt. They have their morphine drip in and they don't care.

During my drive from Seattle to Jacksonville, Florida we drove through so many states. The worst roads and worst rest areas were all in Illinois.

Before too long, they’re going to claim you to be guilty of stealing a foreign mercenary’s Door Dash job by doing your own shopping.

What happens if I pull a Pete Buttigieg and use the SUV to drive me until the crew unloads the bike for my final quarter mile publicity ride? Taxed or not taxed?

what ISN’T more expensive in Illinois?

In the 1980s, beer was cheaper there than elsewhere. Also, Jewel had 8 packs of 16 oz. glass bottles of Coke for 99 cents. Great deal!

Woodman's Supermarket (WI based, but also in Rockford) is cheaper than most markets elsewhere.

“climate fee”

Amazon only has to go about a 1000 extra feet to deliver your package.

A round trip to Walmart is seven miles for me.

I’d go serioously broke with this craziness. Buy so much from AMZ, I get a delivery almost every day. Today, the world’s most expensive kitty litter, only thing Daisy will poop on.
