Where you live can have a big impact on your mental health.

Particularly for seniors, it’s important to settle down in a location that promotes happiness.

Older adults face a higher risk of mental health problems due to circumstances like the loss of loved ones, loneliness, chronic illness or disability, medications, changes brought on by retirement and other stressors, according to the National Council on Aging.

Caring.com, a senior care resource, recently released its Senior Happiness Index, revealing where in the country seniors are happiest based on WalletHub’s state happiness roundup.

I am so happy that my state wasn’t mentioned. We don’t need any more Northerners here with their left leaning ideology.

They are where friends and family are.

That keeps them warm.

You can hire someone to clear the drive. You can not hire a grandchild to read stories to.

My daughter and son-in-law lived in Idaho in a beautiful house ion ten acres for decades. Loved it there and so did I.

He died three years ago and now she lives in Spokane, close to me and her best friend Sarah. She doesn’t really like living here though her house is very nice, but she and her four dogs miss those 10 acres. She walks them for hours every day.

Alas, family and friends are dying off, and the area I live is growing and changing so much that I may eventually have to move to find an area like what I remember and prefer.

Mrs. Afterguard and I grew up in MN. Since 19 years old we’ve lived in CA, HI and FL. Ensconced in NE FL since 1978. We love it here. Cannot imagine going anywhere else.

But it is hot (90+ today), and today is the first day of hurricane season, so it’s not for everyone. Recommend New Enganders and Californians stay away!

It’s tough giving up the wide-open spaces of 10 acres. Where was your daughter and SIL’s place?

Our place in Hayden Lake was very spacious and adjoining a nice pine forest...unit a developer bought it, cut down the forest, and built himself a SECOND home on his property. The lot cannot be split, so he has TWO houses on one property. Grrrrr....

Our daughter and SIL live in Spokane Valley, about 25 minutes away which is really nice.

I’m sure those are nice states, but way too cold for me!☺

Btw most older folks prefer warm weather. So those venues seem a bit odd.

Katy and Fred lived on Kendall Road, big corner property. Bought it when they got married, small house then, which they added to. Katy is like her grandmother, a perfect housekeeper, gardener, cook. Never saw a couple more in love with each other after a very long marriage.

Hayden Lake is gorgeous too. But now Idaho is getting overrun with idiots from CA who chop down all the trees and run over animals in the road.

This developer is a LOCAL guy! He’s been here 30 or 40 years. No regard for the environment or what neighbors think at all. He’s used to buying up square mills of land and filling it to the brim with houses right on top of one another. Grrrrr!!

Katy sounds like a real gem! Fred is very lucky. “Katy is like her grandmother, a perfect housekeeper, gardener, cook.” — LOL. Are you saying those skills skipped a generation?

And those 10 states make “Seniors” really happy that they chose Florida, Arizona, and Texas as where to live.

From this article seniors must like being cold. Strange.

And, they must enjoy high taxes and sanctuary cities/states, in some of these Dem run states.

.......”Are you saying those skills skipped a generation?”

Her paternal grandmother, wonderful woman, did everything right, best cook in the world, immaculate house at all times, smoked exactly 5 cigarettes a day.

My dad had to get a live-in maid because my very pretty mother couldn’t cook and didn’t want to be bothered vacuuming.

I’m efficient, not a great cook but follow my dad’s advice: Buy the best food you can afford and to as little as possible to it. Even the cats get the best cat crunchies.
