Trump envoy says Russian concern over NATO enlargement is fair

U.S. President Donald Trump's envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, said Russia's concern over the eastward enlargement of NATO was fair and the United States did not want to see Ukraine in the U.S.-led military alliance.

Asked by U.S. network ABC News about a Reuters report that Russia wanted a written pledge over NATO not enlarging eastwards to include Ukraine and other former Soviet republics, Kellogg said: "It's a fair concern."

-snip-

Kellogg said the sequencing of the peace talks would include an attempt to merge the two memorandums drafted by Ukraine and Russia into one single document with talks in Turkey on Monday.

"When we get into Istanbul next week we'll sit down and talk," Kellogg said, adding that the national security advisers from Germany, France and Britain would join discussions on the memorandum with the United States.

Kellogg said Trump was "frustrated" with Russia because he had seen "a level of unreasonableness" from Russian President Vladimir Putin. He scolded Russia for striking Ukrainian cities and said he had told Ukraine to turn up to talks.

A good first step - first sign that Kellogg has any connection to reality. The bigger step will be CONVINCING Russia that our new position of not offering NATO to Ukraine will not be reversed with the next administration, if not sooner. There are ways to do that, but the Neocons and our European Puppets will not like it.

Can we also get a written pledge that Russia will not advance westward?

Amazing that another nothing burger turned out to be a root cause....

Even the old cold warrior knows we pushed too far with NATO expansion.

The real nugget is the US and four NATO members will vote against Ukraine membership... takes 30 of 30.

Vance is busy with EU Facist election stealing. Those opposed to NATO expansion are not going to color revolution or EU Courts election engineered during the Trump presidency.

It would be as worthless on paper as all previous Russian pledges, lol.

“...national security advisers from Germany, France and Britain would join discussions...”

Screw those EuroTrash “advisors”. They will be there for the sole purpose of thwarting any peace treaties. I would not care one iota if Germany, France and yes, Britain were wiped off the face of the earth. /spit

Lol! The ole “I need to invade you since you may defend yourself” excuse.

This is why I have the right to break into homes that might get an alarm system one day.

“The real nugget is the US and four NATO members will vote against Ukraine membership... takes 30 of 30.”

The problem is that “The Neocons have Tools” to paraphrase Ursula, and will use them against ‘trouble makers’. Look what they’ve managed so far - which was to install compliant leaders in EVERY major European country and the vast majority of the smaller players.
I think it’s more likely that they’ll be able to deal with the 4 ‘trouble makers’ instead of being hamstrung by them, in part because the two most obvious ones (Hungary and Slovakia) are surrounded by Neocon Puppet States and don’t have sea access. I’m not sure who the other two are, but probably the same for them.

I remain optimistic.
It is a true and sometimes unfortunate part of life that actions have consequences and that the past is often the best indicator of future behaviors.
Add the supercharged political atmosphere and how each side hurries to undo what the other has done previously, and a congress unwilling or unable to act in any more permanent fashion to codify policy and here we are.

Agree with you as another from that era.

When Germany reunited, of course, Germany remains in NATO, an expansion of territory, not nations.

But when the Soviet Union dissolved, we should have admitted RUSSIA into NATO and started greater military ties bi-laterally between the US and Russia. This would have been the better option but of course the MIC would not be as happy.

It’s still not too late for the US to get out of NATO and start a new alignment of nations based on territorial ownership above the Arctic Circle.

Western Europe is becoming part of the 21st Century Islamic Caliphate. They’re not salvageable. Defend what remains of Christianity in Europe, in the east.

Cut the deal to end the Ukraine bloodshed and move forward with a new approach to Europe.

But NATO expansion was never the root cause; Ukrainian independence is.

Still pushing that falsehood? Russia broke the Minsk accords and there was no agreement at Istanbul.

This statement is true but still stupid to make publicly. Putin has shown zero willingness to meet the US or Ukraine halfway. He takes what we give and then pushes for more. Making conciliatory statements in the face of uncompromising aggression is weakness.

“Cut the deal to end the Ukraine bloodshed and move forward with a new approach to Europe.”

No kidding and that’s what most of Trump voters wanted - OUT OF UKRAINE. If they wanted otherwise, they would voted for Harris, as I suspect some who post here regularly did.

So far Putin is not willing to make a deal.

My view is that neither side is willing at the moment.

Another valid choice by the US would be to let them go at it until they decide they’ve had enough.

But NO more USA support for Ukraine and if NATO wants to intervene, the USA will leave NATO.

That war will end quickly after that.

There is no USA interest in Ukraine. Not our circus, not our monkeys.

Trump has leverage over Zelensky.

However, Trump has zero leverage over Putin.

Trump can cut Zelensky off by not sending him any arms.

Can't do that with Putin.

“Putin has shown zero willingness to meet the US or Ukraine halfway.”

Sure he did, but that was before the Neocons had Ukraine kill 150,000 of his men. Just like any other country (including the US) terms change over a war as the bodies pile up.
