“...creates an uneven playing field.”

Life is not a ‘game’ to be ‘played’.

This is messing with peoples’ lives for decades down the road..................

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

I taught for many years at a city public high school. Since 2005 or so, our test policy was that any score less than 50% must be recorded as 50%. So if a student wrote his name on a paper then went to sleep, he received 50 points.

We teachers hated that. But no matter. The administrators wanted more students to pass. That’s how they got bonuses and promotions. So the policy stayed in place.

Let me tell you who that hurt the most. It hurt the marginal students, those who needed motivation to study. But why study if you know you’re guaranteed at least 50 points?

"Maria Su unveiled the new 'Grading for Equity' plan last night that will scrap homework and weekly testing, and allow students to pass with scores as low as 41 - down from the current pass mark of 61."

Absolutely appalling.

why not just hand out high school diplomas to everyone on their day of attendance on the first day of high school, call it good, and save a metric shiteton of money?

I went to a mostly black country school when we moved out of the city. The failing score there was 65. It was 75 in the city at that time.

41 is less than half, utterly ridiculous.

A student's grade will be based solely on their final examination, which they can also take multiple times.
Students can also be late in handing in assignments or even fail to appear in class without it having an effect on their overall mark.

Got it. No child even has to show up to "pass."

When I was in grade school, the "house rules" were that you didn't go out to "play" until your homework was finished. In practice, completed homework assignments led to an easy A in the class. So many others didn't even try.

The BS "equity" argument doesn't play in the workplace. Fail to perform and you hit the bricks. It also doesn't play on standardized tests. You'll get a failing score. If you get a pass on a failing score because of your race, the parties allowing that travesty will need to deal with admitting an unqualified applicant.

“’Grading for Equity’ “ aka if student is one of color, gay or tranny, automatic “A”. If student is white, straight or only recognizes two genders ... “C”
