Timothy Schultz, a 42-year-old Florida man, survived an apparent gator bite only to die Monday after attacking deputies with garden shears, authorities said.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) Grady Judd alleged in a press conference that Schultz was high on meth during his swim in an alligator-infested lake and subsequent rampage with shears. While Schultz was swimming in the lake, one person tried to warn him about the gators and another threw a life vest at him, according to the sheriff.
A gator then appeared to bite his right arm, Judd said. When Schultz emerged from the lake, he allegedly grabbed a pair of garden shears from a nearby residence.
Schultz then went to a truck and tried smashing the vehicle with a brick, the sheriff said. “The fact that he was bitten by an alligator significantly and still continued his rampage is shocking,” Judd remarked. “But if you’re on enough meth, then the person you see is not the person that’s attacking.”
When deputies arrived at the scene, Schultz allegedly charged at them with the shears. Two attempts to tase the man had no effect, Judd said. The sheriff alleged that Schultz subsequently entered the passenger side of a patrol car and tried to obtain a firearm.
“At that time our deputies shot. They shot multiple times,” Judd said. “And as a result, Timothy is deceased.”
No deputies were harmed during the incident, the Facebook press release by PCSO said. The sheriff claimed that Schultz had an extensive criminal history and was jailed over repeated meth abuse.
Schulz was released from jail on May 20 “for possession of meth,” the PCSO wrote in a statement posted on X.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
This was not too far from where I live. Meth heads are just one of the good reasons to always carry.
Poor gator!
Which lake was he swimming in ?? Grady always has the real exciting nut cases in Polk County…
It was in Lake Clark Court in Lakeland, Florida. Probably a storm water retention pond.
ChatGpt, make up the most Florida man headline possible
you’ll go bankrupt after a fatal shooting after the family sues you to oblivion. you might stay out of jail but you’ll 100% not stay out of court where you’ll exhaust huge sums of money after a multi-year court battle.
I know that, but that is better than dead.

That kind of thing could cause shear terror.
Glad the cops did their thing and survived.
Should have let him keep swimming with gators.
