Payment card giants Visa and Mastercard have announced plans to integrate with AI “agents,” enabling them to make purchases on users’ behalf by accessing their credit card information. According to Visa, the agents would verify purchases with users at first, but would gain more autonomy over time.
AI agents, or “personal assistants,” are advanced versions of popular chatbot large language models (LLMs). They are designed to simplify users’ lives by taking over critical functions across work and day-to-day life. So far, progress on these AI agents has been slow, with little to show for it.
However, the payment card companies seem optimistic about the future. In an April 30th release, Visa announced its “Visa Intelligent Commerce,” which will allow AI agent developers to connect with Visa’s tools. “Soon people will have AI agents browse, select, purchase and manage on their behalf,” said Visa’s Chief Product and Strategy Officer Jack Forestell. “These agents will need to be trusted with payments, not only by users, but by banks and sellers as well.”
The company will collaborate with leading companies in the AI and tech sectors like Anthropic, IBM, Microsoft, OpenAI, Perplexity, and more.
As for Mastercard, the company announced its “Mastercard Agent Pay” the previous day, which offers a similar service. Mastercard has announced partnerships with Microsoft and IBM.

This despite the clear warnings: "OpenAI software ignores explicit instruction to switch off."
“The o3 model developed by OpenAI, described as the “smartest and most capable to date”, was observed tampering with computer code meant to ensure its automatic shutdown.
It did so despite an explicit instruction from researchers that said it should allow itself to be shut down, according to Palisade Research, an AI safety firm.”
Thank you for the link! And this...
“according to Palisade Research, an AI safety firm.”
The fact we would even need “AI safety firms” is not enough of a HUGE RED FLAG???
Kidding me? What the hell is wrong with these people?
“Soon people will have AI agents browse, select, purchase and manage on their behalf,”
How does this differ from giving your wife your credit card number?
NO.
NO!!!!
HELL NO!!!!!
“”You know what is next right? A required AI account to use your Credit Cards.””
The Sunstein “nudge” factor is coming... on steroids.
“How does this differ from giving your wife your credit card number?”
That is very good... :)
Question is... Will your real wife get jealous of your AI wife? I see a conflict happening already... lol
The offspring will be Whitworth.
So AI gets power of attorney and healthcare proxy? With its new-found power will it sell all your property and use the money to buy new memory chips?
These AI agents can download child porn in your name while doing their duties as citizens by reporting you to the local cops.
When the SWAT team shows up with guns drawn at your door good luck convincing them it was all a misunderstanding.
You see—you are now also on the terrorist watch list—with proof you made dozens of calls to Iran and North Korea!

Yep, absolutely. There are so many holes in this concept you can see daylight through it. I have not figured out what is wrong with people to trust all this like they do. Lack of vision? Everything good under Trump’s watch? AI tech and Musk is a God? It is so “convenient”? MONEY?
Wow!
Tell them to screw off !!!
I agree
