The Kremlin on Monday responded to President Trump’s criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin, citing “emotional overload” at this “very important moment.”
“We are really grateful to the Americans and to President Trump personally for their assistance in organizing and launching this negotiation process,” said spokesman Dmitry Peskov when asked about Trump’s remarks, according to Reuters.
“Of course, at the same time, this is a very crucial moment, which is associated, of course, with the emotional overload of everyone absolutely and with emotional reactions.”
The comments come after the American president has lashed out at Putin in recent days, a noticeable shift in tone that many have interpreted as a sign Trump is losing his patience with the Russian leader amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY!” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday night.

President Trump is not “lashing out” at Putin, he is negotiating. The apparent denigrations directed at Putin are in fact a constructive criticism, which may or may not directly affect what Putin says or does, but have to be working at a subconscious level, triggering some alternate thought processes and scratching at different possible paths forward.
Donald J. Trump has gone through this cycle of talks before, with persons who have to have been near-equals with Putin, this is not his first rodeo. Hell, the man grew up in Queens, that is one of the toughest tests for developing negotiating skills anywhere.
Zelensky tried to shoot Putin’s helicopter with drones… that might have affected Putin’s mood.
Dear Putin,
We are going to Drill Baby Drill. You Dear Putin and Mother Russia are going to go bankrupt.
Love,
The USA
Trump is negotiation his own surrender. He is still commander-in-chief of the armed forces... of the free world... NATO....
He thinks he is negotiating with Putin. He is not. The war is non negotiable.
The war presently is a win or lose situation
That "would" be a reason if true. But Trump has "not heard that".
“The apparent denigrations directed at Putin are in fact a constructive criticism, which may or may not directly affect what Putin says or does, but have to be working at a subconscious level, triggering some alternate thought processes and scratching at different possible paths forward.”
I was thinking about the same thing, but it won’t work on the Russians. Either Putin sticks to his guns, or he’ll be replaced, no different than Zelensky, regarding the internal situations in their respective countries. However it is different in Russia, in one way, which is that Russia’s replacement of Putin will be much more hard-line and likely will take on the now-disarmed Europeans, once they launch another missile strike from Ukraine.
POTUS is just trying to save face domestically, with a wink and a nod to Vlad.
