Pennsylvania cop died by suicide after suffering nightmare complications from Lasik eye surgery

A young Pennsylvania police officer took his own life after he suffered from side effects caused by elective eye surgery, according to his family.

Ryan Kingerski, 26, took time off from his job at the Penn Hills Police Department in August to undergo the popular eye surgery, LASIK, in hopes it would improve his vision, his grieving parents, Tim and Stefanie Kingerski, told CBS News Tuesday.

However, he began suffering from painful side effects, including headaches, double vision, seeing dark spots and floaters — tiny spots that appear as streaks or cobweb-like shapes across a person’s field of vision, they said.

I was offered to do the cataract surgery, which I have but not bad and decided against it for fear of problems from surgery. After all, it is my eyes! Yet I know this surgery is quite commonly done with good results.

I just read where Bryan Kohberger has had problems with visual snow for years and it was making him quite upset. I don’t excuse the guy for his murderous rampage but point out imaging if one had visual problems to distraction like that, all the time, constant.

I feel sorry for this poor cop.

I'm not too sure of this being the reason for suicide. I'd look elsewhere.

First of all...they never door both eyes at the same time.

Wow, it sounds like he was not mentally stable enough to be a cop ,in the first place. I would have explored other options.
RIP

I only use my glasses to drive and my ophthalmologist was surprised to find I have the same vision I did when I was 18 years old.

My two sisters and father, wore their glasses full time and they cannot unwear them now. It makes me think that you will preserve your eyesight by not wearing eyeglasses when you don’t need to.

The ophthalmologist tells me I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am.

I believe it. It's not the first Lasik suicide.

A friend had cataract surgery, caused vision problems.
He lost his pilot’s license as a result. Did not kill himself.
He found another job.

I had these type of symptoms, probably to a lesser degree, upwards of a year after my Lasik surgery. After that, no problems.

I had cataract surgery last year without the fancy laserbeam crap. Just a lens replacement.

My vision improved so much and my contrast is back like it should be. I couldn’t read the spedometer without back light or direct sunlight. Now it’s perfect. I also had an astigmatism. Now I only need 1.5 reading glasses and I can get by without them except for the smallest print.

My advice, skip the laser shit, that’s where all the problems are.

In fact, most suicides are a result if chronic or undiagnosed medical problems that cause pain and suffering in some form.

I have had both Lasik and more recently cataract surgery. I always suggest that you look for THE BEST surgeon in your area you can find. My consultations with my ophthalmologist before any surgery are super important. Ask for references and second opinions. I know it’s unlikely that you’re in my area, but if you are, I have the best guy for cataract surgery. He is extremely skilled. We also have a retinologist for my husband’s previous eye problems.

I don’t take my eyesight for granted at all. I’m one of the lucky few. I developed cataracts at a very young age. After removing the cataracts, he inserted permanent multi focal lens in each eye. I now have perfect vision for close, medium, and far distances without glasses. It’s been a godsend for me.

One thing a doctor is not going to mess with is my eyes.

His suicide note blamed the surgery.

A friend of my daughter’s had this done a few years ago. He lost 100% of his sight in what is considered a rare complication. So very very sad
