President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy began high-level talks Thursday at Ankara's Presidential Complex, as Türkiye continues its diplomatic efforts to broker peace in the Russia-Ukraine war.
Erdogan personally welcomed Zelenskyy at the entrance to the complex before the leaders moved to closed-door discussions, according to Turkish officials.
High-level delegations join crucial discussions
The meeting, which began after Zelenskyy arrived at Esenboga Airport at 12:14 p.m. local time, comes ahead of anticipated Russia-Ukraine peace negotiations, though no date has been confirmed for those talks.
Several key Turkish officials joined the bilateral discussions, including National Defense Minister Yasar Guler, National Intelligence Organization head Ibrahim Kalin, and Akif Cagatay Kilic, chief presidential advisor on foreign policy and security.
"President Erdogan and President Zelenskyy are expected to discuss the latest developments in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, addressing the situation from all angles," Türkiye's Communications Director Fahrettin Altun wrote on X.
Türkiye pushes for immediate cease-fire solution Altun added that during the visit, Erdogan is expected to emphasize "Türkiye's call for an immediate ceasefire and the start of peace negotiations."
The Ukrainian leader was greeted at the airport by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and other officials who were already in Türkiye for a NATO foreign ministers meeting taking place in Antalya, on Türkiye's southern Mediterranean coast.

Seems like neither side wants peace. I think this is a major blunder on Russia’s part. Now is the time to ink a deal while Trump is still in office. Trump may not even finish his term. He is almost 80 for one. When Trump is gone, the window for peace will very likely be closed, and perhaps sooner than that if both sides continue the games.
Russia seems to be reveling in what it sees as a victory over Ukraine and is enjoying flaunting the peace talks. It may very well come back and bite them.
Russia proposed the direct talks with Ukraine on Saturday.
Their negotiating team is in Istanbul right now.
If the Ukrainians fail to meet with them the blunder is on them and their Western sponsors.
The U.S. including Trump don’t seem to think these talks are getting anywhere. They have recently said as much - that they wouldn’t be traveling the globe for what has been completely non-productive talks. Why is that? I suspect Russia wants to gobble up more of Ukraine and Z. wants to stay in power. Nothing will likely come of these talks in Turkey.
Where’s the rus shitter ?
This may turn out to be more of a Turkey/Ukraine summit, than one involving Russia.
Looks like Putin only proposed these talks to stall for time, and continue stringing President Trump along, to avoid the hammer of the bone-crushing sanctions that president Trump has threatened (prohibitive secondary sanctions on buyers of Russian oil exports), if Russia does not cease fire and make peace with Ukraine (soon).
Meanwhile, it appears that President Trump is coordinating Global oil output increases, to make up for the potential sudden loss of Russia’s exports, so that he can drop that hammer on Russia, without spiking oil prices.
Saudi Arabia has been ramping up production for two months already, and inventories are building. President Trump said yesterday that a deal with Iran may be close. Everyone is hungry for the windfall profit that would come from taking over Russia’s market share - a once in a lifetime opportunity.
A bone-crushing hammer is ready to drop on Russia, because of Putin, the Doom of Russia.
