Basketball fans clapped back at the NBA for allegedly “rigging” the Draft Lottery after the Dallas Mavericks won the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes.
After shockingly losing to Houston in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament, Flagg announced that he’d be entering his name in the 2025 NBA Draft. The Naismith Player of the Year is considered the consensus first overall pick, with Jayson Tatum, Colin Cowherd and Charles Barkley all expressing confidence that he will excel at the next level.
The Mavericks, meanwhile, endured a brutal 2024-25 campaign highlighted by the three-team blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers and brought Anthony Davis to Dallas.
The shocking move, which had Mavericks fans up in arms, was widely slammed by those across the NBA - especially after Dallas suffered an early exit from the playoffs.
On Monday, however, the Mavericks got much-needed good news upon winning the 2025 NBA Draft lottery despite only having a 1.8% chance of landing the No. 1 pick. The monumental victory - which generated a response from Patrick Mahomes - marks the first time in franchise history that Dallas has won the NBA lottery.
Taking to social media, droves of disgruntled viewers voiced their frustration with the outcome - insisting that the NBA rigged the lottery in order to ensure that the Mavericks were awarded the first overall selection.

The methods of “Our Democracy” are spreading like cancer.
Unfortunately.
Yep but it may catch up with them. If the fans notice that the product is openly corrupt, they’re going to stop paying for it.
- The Hornets won the lottery immediately after they traded Chris Paul.
- The Pelicans (Formerly Hornets) won the lottery again immediately after they traded Anthony Davis.
Can anyone crunch the numbers about how likely that is?
Hope Flagg likes Vegas.
What team will the trade Cooper Flagg to?
There is a mistake in the headline. It’s the Las Vegas Mavericks, not Dallas.
Professional sports unethical? Nah, say it ain’t so??!! /s
Don’t forget the NY Knick’s getting the Patrick Ewing pick in the first draft lottery.
In the grand scheme of life, this news is as important as a fart while you are sitting down. Everyone in this “sphere of importance” is laughing to the bank—laughing at everyone who wastes their time with this.
🙄
The ping pong balls used be public.
Now we are supposed trust a carnival looking GEEK like Adam Silver?
LOL...beats Colorado Springs IIRC.
So when does Nico Harris trade Flagg to the Lakers for Austin Reaves and a couple of second rounders?
I’d believe it was rigged if the Lakers or Knicks won the top draft pick. Dallas? Meh.
Lakers are going to get Giannis.
I believe Ewing is one of the most overrated players of all time. I would have taken Chris Mullin or Karl Malone over him. Probably Dumars and Sabonis too.
