Erythritol, a commonly used sugar substitute often marketed as "healthy," may impair blood vessel health by disrupting the brain's ability to produce a critical compound, according to new research.
Erythritol is a low-calorie sugar substitute found in many sugar-free products, including energy drinks, snack foods and protein bars. Like other sugar alcohols, erythritol is popular because it does not affect blood glucose and insulin levels as much as sugar. However, previous research links consumption of erythritol to a higher risk of adverse cardiac events, including stroke.
In a new study, researchers treated human cerebral microvascular endothelial cells—cells from the tiny blood vessels in the brain—with erythritol. They found that the cells exposed to the amount of sweetener in one beverage serving had higher levels of oxidative (cellular) stress. In addition, the cells produced less nitric oxide, a compound that helps blood vessels dilate. Reduced nitric oxide levels can impair vasodilation, impair blood flow, and may increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.
"While erythritol is widely used in sugar-free products marketed as healthier alternatives, more research is needed to fully understand its impact on vascular health," said Auburn Berry, first author of the study. "In general, people should be conscious of the amount of erythritol they are consuming on a daily basis."

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Allulose is all the rage in Korea and Korean food companies are already implementing… according to one YouTube personality I follow.
My friend’s naturopath says the only good sweetener is “Sweet Leaf”. Tiny packages. Each on has enough for one or two cups of coffee. Available here at Natural Grocers and of course on AMZ
Not nearly as bad as aspartame.
I use stevia.
Just a tiny bit will do.
Sugar lobby paid for this.
Same here, only liquid stevia. The powdered form is a stevia and eriterol combination
I wonder just how much erythritol they used to treat the cell samples, and over how long a period.
Until Allulose can be profitable…expect it to remain heavily under the radar.
I like sucralose because it most closely tastes like sugar.
Stevia. If they find a way to synthesize it, it would dominate the artificial sweetener market. All sources of it currently are organic, and that means $$$$.

Allulose is a laxative if you consume a lot of it.
So is maltitol, a sugar alcohol used in sugar free candies. Such as gummy bears. They taste just like real sugar gummy bears but have the side effect of, well, read for yourself.

I like different products but like all things moderation is needed.
Stevia leaf is excellent but doesn’t serve well in all cooking jobs.
Xylitol is another I like. It’s so good sprinkled on berries and such and is a natural sugar extracted from fruits and plants.
Then IMO for some recipes you just can’t beat gold old cane sugar for flavor

I made the mistake of not believing the rumors of those sugar-free gummy bears and trying them out. (I don’t even like gummy bears)
I learned that the warnings from other victims were grossly understated!
My best description is EXPLOSIVE and UNCONTROLLABLE..... (oh, and SUPER FAST ACTING)
Does a bear...
