There used to be a shared parking situation in Eugene, OR. It worked out pretty well, from 9-5...my favorite fly-fishing shop was in there, and I went frequently. One of the businesses sharing the lot was Alberto Salazaar’s restaurant, The Electric Station. They got a pretty big night crowd, and he could be pretty autocratic, roping things off with cables. One time, a future girlfriend of mine came bombing up her driveway, a 55 gallon drum bouncing around in the bed of her truck. She got out, and tossed the barrel out. Everyone’s looking at her, asking “What’s up?” She told us The Electric Station locked the barrel to her truck because she’d gotten held up at some business ‘til after 5, so she axed the cable, and took their barrel.
He had parked in an area that between seven pm and seven am there was free parking. He got there after 7:00p but before 7:30 which means that the parking was free. There was a sign up and everything. He went to his event and came back around midnight and his car had been ticketed for parking in a restricted area. Turns out that after 7:30 a local restaurant used that area as their overflow parking area. Had signs up and everything. For use only by customers. So the local cop ticketed his car.
The ticket was for like ten bucks but he was miffed enough to show up in court. The local cop and the restaurant had an agreement but, there was no agreement with the city or anyone official. Ticket was dismissed, cop was in hot water and the restaurant was told they could use the area but, it was not theirs exclusively and got fined for, I think it was, unlawful taking.
