President Donald Trump suggested imminent progress in peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in a post to Truth Social early on Sunday, saying he would "continue to work with both sides" to end Moscow's 3-year-old invasion of its neighbor.

"A potentially great day for Russia and Ukraine!," Trump wrote. "Think of the hundreds of thousands of lives that will be saved as this never ending 'bloodbath' hopefully comes to an end. It will be a whole new, and much better, WORLD."

"I will continue to work with both sides to make sure that it happens." Trump continued. "The USA wants to focus, instead, on Rebuilding and Trade. A BIG week upcoming!"

From your other thread:

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday welcomed Russia's offer for direct peace talks, but insisted there must be a full, temporary ceasefire in place before negotiations can start.”

Doesn't sound very positive.

The ceasefire is not a peaceful solution. Zelensky uses it to keep from making a solution.

If he wants it over like he says, he will get to that table in Istanbul and get to work, ceasefire or not.

Perhaps a ceasefire can emerge from the talks soon after.

Zelensky uses it to keep from making a solution.

Complete nonsense. Putin is the problem, demanding ridiculous maximum demands to stop invading Ukraine and seizing more land.

D Vance: Right now, the Russians are asking for a certain set of requirements, a certain set of concessions in order to end the conflict. We think they’re asking for too much, okay?

The Turkish brokered peace negotiations, direct between Russia and Ukraine, may have been orchestrated specifically to undercut the Monday deadline for ceasefire. That deadline gets erased, at least in the headlines by talk of direct negotiations.

What appears to be progress on direct negotiations will end all talk of further sanctions.

But I doubt those negotiations will begin. The Brits will understand they have been outmaneuvered on this and instruct Zelensky to stay away. The whole thing has Lavrov written all over it. Erdogan has always maneuvered to be a major player, starting with the food transport agreement of a couple of years ago that eventually fell apart. This was his latest.

I wish Trump would predict some arrests of people who were stealing the country blind through USAID.

Not only that but now we get to focus on Rebuilding Ukraine. It seems we cannot stay away from costly adventures in nation building.

Contrary to what we were told it sounds like Zelensky still has cards left to play. At least that’s how he acting.

“Complete nonsense. Putin is the problem, demanding ridiculous maximum demands to stop invading Ukraine and seizing more land.”

Putin isn’t dumb enough to agree to giving Ukraine a month to work on its defenses and weapons acquisition. Putin will just continue taking land until Ukraine sits down and makes a deal.
