Watching Britain’s decline is like rubbernecking a car accident
American Thinker ^ | 10 May, 2025 | Andrea Widburg

My parents were Anglophiles. Therefore, I was an Anglophile, gobbling up Masterpiece Theater, majoring in British history at college, and spending an utterly delightful junior year abroad in England a long, long time ago. Of late, though, I’ve come to revisit my fondness for England. That’s because England doesn’t really seem to exist anymore. Instead, it’s an increasingly Third World country, complete with blasphemy laws, and a likely collapse of its power grid.

The trigger for this, my latest in a series of essays I think of as illustrating that “there won’t always be an England,” is a paywalled article in the Daily Mail that looks at the city of Leicester.

This Midland city is linked to major events in British history. The Celts were there, as were Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Danes, and Normans. The Lancaster dynasty, which gave rise to the Tudors, had a power base there, and Richard III’s body was uncovered in a Leicester parking lot. Because of water, railways, and nearby coal mines, Leicester became a major industrial center in the 19th century.

In sum, Leicester is interwoven with the warp and woof of British history. It’s currently the 11th largest city in Great Britain. And, as the Daily Mail reports, Leicester, “is now among the first of our cities to have a majority non-white population...”

While the City still has classic British architecture, that’s just a remnant. The non-British part of the population is primarily Muslim, with Hindus following behind:

According to the 2021 census – the most recent – Leicester is roughly split in two between white and Asian populations, with 43.4 per cent identifying as Asian and 40.9 per cent as white. Within that, 23.5 per cent of the population are Muslim and 17.9 per cent are Hindu.

The non-British part of the population is primarily Muslim.

Only problems will ensue until the get rid of them.

Farage’s Reform (iirc) Party is fighting back and having electoral success, so let’s hope they can save it.

We were at one as well last Nov.

Careful what you wish for. My wife (UK-now US citizen) has friends who can’t believe that she voted for Trump. They have swallowed the pill that their socialist government gave them. I guess they like high taxes, crappy health care (it took her friend 7 years to finally get a foot operation), and the invasion currently going on. I lived there a total of 5 years in 80’s and 90’s. The UK was still British then. I went back a year ago…Britain was gone.

“The English are another group of people I would happily admit to the US.”

“Unfortunately, most of them will end up voting for the Democratic Party”

Yep, slam dunk, especially when the Rats promise them free Dental care.

That’s probably the UK’s last hope. But Labour does not have to call another general election before August of 2029. That’s pretty far off, and plenty of time for more damage to be done.

I think the wild card will be the Tories. In the next election, Reform probably won’t win a majority on its own. So will the Tories ally with Reform or with Labour?

... I see modern Britain as a Zombie country, still clinging to the trappings of the past (a few historic TV dramas, the tatty Royal Family, etc.), but mostly just a dead country walking.

What a sad ending to what was once the greatest empire in the World.

They'll just ban Reform before 2029. Or Farage won't be allowed to run.

The Kinks sung about this over 40 years ago.

“All the stories have been told
Of kings and days of old
But there’s no England now (there’s no England now)
All the wars that were won and lost
Somehow don’t seem to matter very much anymore”

Yep. But I suppose you reap what you sow. Imperial Britain just had to be in India, Sudan, etc. Now it’s all coming back to haunt them.

The real fools are the Swedes. They had no empire. No perceived moral debt to the third world. Yet they opened their gates to the worst of the worst.

On average, the politics of the educated Brits are not what we need.

Agree on that point. I should've specified we'll take the "Norfies". Their professional class are by and large complete c.... (a word they say all the time but which is extra special naughty to use on this side of the pond). To a large extent, the British public has been betrayed by its political class. They voted against mass immigration consistently since the 1960s only to have ever more of it shoved down their throats by their politicians. Tony Blair and Boris made things especially worse.

--- "Why do leftists think this is a good thing?"

Most liberals today are wildly uninformed, while those who "formed" their being uninformed were informed as follows:

A specter is haunting Europe—the specter of Communism. All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this specter; Pope and Czar, Metternich and Guizot, French radicals and German police spies.

Where is the party in opposition that has not been decried as Communistic by its opponents in power? Where the opposition that has not hurled back the branding reproach of Communism, against the more advanced opposition parties, as well as against its reactionary adversaries? Two things result from this fact.

I. Communism is already acknowledged by all European powers to be in itself a power.

II. It is high time that Communists should openly, in the face of the whole world, publish their views, their aims, their tendencies, and meet this nursery tale of the Specter of Communism with a Manifesto of the party itself.

And, in part it has become a plank in the manifestos of the "liberal" parties around the world. The Labour Party in the UK holds many of the tenets, as do the Democratic Socialists of America (many of whom sit in Congress and state political offices), the SPD in Germany which is based on the notion of "democratic socialism," the French Leftists (who spawned Pol Pot of the Khmer Rouge), not to mention the older Ba'ath parties of Iraq and Syria (now given way to rabid Islam) -- but most forget the bog out of which they emerged.

One shouldn't forget that old idiot Marx is buried in London's Highgate and is a sort of pilgrimage site for the West's Leftists.

And, with Demographics is Destiny, disparate birthrates, and unfettered “migrants” still pouring in - it won’t be too long before muslims and other 3rd world scum are a numerical majority in Britain.

The traitorous politicians who allowed this, and continue to allow this, should be hanged from lampposts.

Yup. I was lectured by a 30-something Brit new hire back in 2011 about how great Obama was. He could not believe I didn’t agree and, after that, avoided me due to my supposed racism. At that time, I thought they had drunk the Koolaid.
