No mention of helmet or speed.

We won the FR Daily Double. Bicycles and pit bulls in the same post. This should be good. ;0)

Bicycle riders are rude and entitled and always making their point.

The unleashed dog was said to be either a Lab or a Pit Bull.
Those are two very different looking breeds.
It would be hard to mistake one for the other, unless we’re talking about someone just making a wild guess.

My bet is it was a Pit Bull, because a large percentage of people who own that breed tend to casually disregard leash laws they don’t personally find convenient or pleasing.

“...a medium-sized blond Labrador or pit bull terrier.”

Confusion about that?

“While Durango police have not determined whether the dog or cyclist initiated the collision”. Maybe the dude liked to run over dogs on his bike and this time it killed him.

The dog was described by witnesses as a medium-sized blond Labrador or pit bull terrier.

Begging pardon; but, I bet that cyclist could have just as easily hit a person hiking the trail.

Steven Miller, 76, fell off his bike and hit his head. He died two weeks later from his injuries.

No helmet, I'll bet. It's such an easy way to improve your odds in even a low-speed crash.

Witnesses said the dog’s owner initially yelled at Miller before realizing how seriously he was injured. The dog’s owner then left the scene, saying he was going to get help, but never returned.

Cowardly a-hole.

Big article with a lot of useless details yet no mention if the rider was wearing a helmet.

S**t happens, be it a dog, pothole, loose gravel, etc. Be interesting to see if the victim wore a helmet.

Regardless of breed, dogs in public off leash cause endless problems. Even death, like in this incident.

Most people who allow their dogs to run around off leash in public are pretty much mental cases and assorted tiny brained blockheads.

I think this sort of thread is interesting. Rather than TDS it’s BDS. In their mind all bikers should be nuked. Why? It’s just as illogical and insane as TDS. Lol, guess we all have our hot buttons.

I hate those entitled dog owners who think little fluffy is so cute and well behaved and doesn’t need to be on a leash. My wife and I powerwalk and we used to go to a nice park and walk trails that are clearly marked as requiring dogs to be on leashes. Probably about 50% of those walking their dogs ignore it. It got to the point that if a dog ran up in front of me for treats or pets or a greeting or whatever I won’t slow down. I’ll keep walking the same pace and if the dog get s caught under my feet too bad.

I’ve encountered loose dogs while running, including pits. I’ve been lucky; they seemed to just want to bark at me or sniff me, and the owners were typically nearby.

If cyclists think they’re “entitled” then dog owners by comparison think they’re beatified.

If you think there’s EVER justification for a dog owner letting their animal run at large and in the doing put an innocent human life at rise, YOU’RE AN IDIOT.

I biked to work for years and one day a block from my office. a guy with a dog on a lease is walking across the street not looking at regular traffic and me. I brake for the stupid dog. bike over ends and i break my elbow. i swore i would not ever break for a dog or person not looking at on coming traffic.
