“This makes no sense,” a U.K. producer railed. “It implies that a U.S. film is meant to shoot in the U.S. But the ‘Harry Potter’ films, ‘Lord Of The Rings,’ ‘Schindler’s List,’ ‘Mission Impossible,’ ‘Gladiator,’ ‘Avatar’ and so many more are U.S films that shot overseas for obvious reasons. Do these films have to shoot in the U.S. from now on? It’s an absurd announcement with no meaning nor understanding of storytelling or creative impulses....”
Echoes another London-based producer: “If this goes the distance, it will decimate the industry. But you can’t just stop production,” he said. “When does it come into effect? What about movies in pre-production, that are shooting or in post? Would you just double their costs. None of this has been thought through. So I think the calm response is: Let’s see what this means, let’s see the fine print.”

I’m sure of it. Hollyweird’s fake tears are meaningless
Of course they are. If an actor needs tears, they just pull a nose hair. It’s all fake!
funny
So let me get this straight. The entertainment industry calls for higher taxes on everything constantly. Well, here you go, guys. Enjoy!
I think the point is that it won’t happen. But Hollywood needs to come hat in hand and submit a little bit. They have been flaming America haters and they despise Trump and let everyone know. They lead the charge for the woke, the perversion etc.
They are getting their leash yanked hard and need to go talk to him and tone down their BS a little bit.
That’s all. If they do that, it creates lots of jobs for Americans. I saw what happened when the film industry came to New Mexico in a big way. Created lots of great jobs and some good movies.
Basically, the studios have been running wild and flipping America and MAGA the finger. Now they need to basically apologize, straighten up a little, tone down their abuse, and kiss a little Presidential ass. It’ll be good for them.
They’ll do it, and they’ll have more Americans working, and they might even start making some decent films again.
Negotiation starts with bringing uncooperative sides together.
I know that makes me an outlier on FR, but it’s akin to my movie ping list New Year’s resolution of a couple of years ago to not dump on a film (at least not too much) unless I’ve taken the time to actually watch it.:)
We’ve created such echo chambers on social media that people run amuck when they actually don’t have the slightest idea what they’re talking about. The lefties are over the moon on this, but we’re not immune from it either.
A lot of social media is the blind leading the blind, bloviating about X, Y and Z when no one in the discussion has actually seen or read the original supposedly book, offensive comment or movie. A conclusory accusation gets made, and the chatter runs wild with it. And it’s often wrong.
I watch movies from time to time in a spirit of opposition research, and sometimes I’m pleasantly surprised to discover that there is a lot more to something than the echo chamber howling understands. I don’t want to get into a long review here, but the highly polarizing and hotly denounced Babylon (2022) is a good example. It is NOT what most freepers think it is.
It seems as if most movies and television series are now filmed in Canada.
The majority of the stuff you see on TV and in the movies are filmed in other countries. My Mom’s tenant works in wardrobe, she barely works anymore because she cant find work..everything is overseas she hates it
It is called “Kicking the anthill” to keep the ants confused and acting crazy...
If Rosie O’D stays in Ireland, I’d give them a discount.
Nothing smart about it. He can’t force business back to LA. LA and California priced themselves out of the market with very high production costs, i.e. crew costs Unionized pay, etc.. That cannot be fixed by tariffs. Many companies have relocated to Georgia and other states where shooting is cheaper and the LA talent is moving with them because of lower cost of living.
None of this has been thought out, as usual Trump saying something on social media.
America should exempt films made in Canada from this.
This is stupid.
80% of films are shot on location overseas.
Who is paying tarrif, Hollywood?
I don’t plan to ever watch another Blake Lively movie ever in my natural life.
I’ve seen some creative movies from the UK recently whiling streaming. However, I do get tired of their British accents.
