Every now and then, a self-published work makes its way from vanity-press oblivion into currency and actual social relevance. Off Course, a 188-page soft-cover read from the keyboard of seasoned newspaper scribe Judy Berkley, is one such gem — or at least should be. It’s a clear, fact-based glimpse inside the toney, insular world of equestrian competition riven by wokeness.
Berkley, a long-time columnist with The Oakland Tribune and a nationally known horsewoman and author, offers her credible, first-person insight into how the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) succumbed to the DIE (or DEI)/CRT metastasis. USEF, which is the nation’s National Governing Body for Olympic horse-related matters, boasts a membership of over 200,000, including some of the wealthiest and most politically influential families and businesses in the nation.
Berkley details how USEF was overcome by speech codes, racial and sex-based preferences, anti-white indoctrination, and the promotion of black and LGBTQ agendas. Berkley’s deft chronicle explains how DIE/CRT “poured forth from academia” following the death of George Floyd, resulting in the “denigration and erasure [of] white history,” as America was deluged with the culture-changing “language of the woke and the pent-up rage of marginalized people.” Berkley welcomes us to the arena of unbridled “microaggressions,” “code shifting,” and “cultural appropriations” as she traces the Marxist roots of DIE/CRT from American universities to the insular world of neatly groomed paddocks, pastures, and barns.
Specifically, Berkley details how USEF, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., absurdly retained the services of a University of Kentucky African American Studies professor as an “external thought leader” (political officer?) to inculcate its membership with the guilt of white privilege via an insidious “Inclusion Playbook.” That “Playbook” includes a “trans inclusion messaging toolkit” that is rife with unapologetic Marxist dogma:

Tranny horses? Pics or it’s not happening.
IOW, the black gelding is given a head start
Is this surprising for a “sport” dominated by gay men and rich white women?
If they want equity then all straight white male jockeys would have to put on backpacks with concrete blocks before getting on the horses.
I’m pretty familiar with the “insular world of neatly groomed paddocks, pastures, and barns,” and I never hear a peep of wokery. Everyone’s in it for tradition or for the money, usually both. They’re so in it, they don’t care about much else. Even the stable hands couldn’t tell you who’s VPotus these days never mind what DEI stands for if “equestrian” isn’t the E. But point to any horse and they know who owns it, its market value, and its pedigree in stunning detail. In a world of their own, they are.
I’m mostly in PA but this is my perspective on KY, NY and FL as well.
I canceled a magazine subscription I used to LOVE to get. It was a recipe magazine, very long running, and one day when I opened up the new issue to read it, I came across an article about a female farmer who had a trans person come and work on her farm. After a day of labor, the trans it dissolved in tears, thanking the female farmer for some BS crap about being ‘accepted’.
Such garbage. I called immediately and stopped my subscription and asked the clearinghouse to please pass on my reason why I was stopping. These woke and mentally ill people are out of control.
Don’t forget about the Salvation Army racist handbook.
Pages 57 and 58 are especially enlightening.

I had some wealthy relatives who were horse show people. My aunt had grown up poor on a farm with no electricity in the twenties. But in the sixties, she was very well off and running an Arabian horse stud service, along with a large construction firm. The kids grew up visiting famous actors, singers, and some very wealthy people with whom they traveled and partied at horse shows. The kids were so divorced from reality that they ended up in serious trouble because they saw how laws and normal reality, like paying for stuff, didn’t apply to people they associated with. My cousins ended up badly. So badly, my aunt and uncle had another set of kids later in life and completely gave up the horse crowd.
Fred Sanford quote: That horse had a horseterectomy.

Don’t ride the white horse
Mr. Ed.
Whoops. I meant Mrs. Ed.
Exactly why my latest acquisition is a big butch black mare!
Obviously.
i take it they aren’t Western Riding Clubs...
