Cult coffee chain Starbucks has sparked uproar among Gen Z workers after drastically changing their uniform.
In a video posted to X, Starbucks union workers in Seattle can be seen marching on management in response to the new dress code.
The clip was captioned, “Starbucks workers across the country are facing understaffing, inaccessible benefits, discrimination, and low wages.
“Instead of fixing these issues, Starbucks decided to introduce an unpopular, more conservative dress code.”
A barista wearing a bandana and a party hat can be seen addressing management, saying, “I don’t understand how [the dress code] is in good faith of letting us express ourselves.”
Another worker then says, “We’re just expected to lie down and accept it,” as union members clap and cheer.
Early last month, Starbucks confirmed they were updating its dress code for a “more consistent coffeehouse experience.”

Work is not a place for youmto express yourself.
If you are allowed to express yourself, its within limits, and its a privilege.
Obviously I missed something. I was unaware that it was the employers’ job to allow you to express yourself on his dime
These same people would be like “you’re not a cop, wheres your uniform man?!?” if some slob looking like them started aresting or detaining them.
The problem is Starbucks own doing at least partially. From perplexity.ai:
“Starbucks calls their employees “partners.” This terminology reflects the company’s philosophy that success is best when shared. Starbucks employees are called partners because they have an ownership stake in the company through programs like the Bean Stock grant, which awards company stock to eligible full-time and part-time employees. This practice began in 1991 and was designed to foster a sense of pride, mutual support, and shared vision among all employees, whether they work in stores, roasting plants, or offices.
The term “partner” also promotes a culture of collaboration and respect, emphasizing that employees are more than just workers; they are integral to the business’s success. Starbucks invests in its partners through benefits like stock ownership, tuition coverage for college degrees, and various development programs, reinforcing the idea of partnership both financially and culturally.
In summary, Starbucks uses the term “partners” to highlight both the financial equity employees hold in the company and the collaborative, inclusive culture the company strives to maintain.”
My reaction wasn’t quite that intense.
But, I too like coffee and would rather get it from a vending machine than Starbucks.
My first job after collage was a medium sized company and the old founding CEO and mayor were in the elevator and a young girl got on wearing a tube top. Most young girls weren’t overweight then. The next day we had a dress code.
It depends in large measure (IMHO) upon what happens in this presidential term for Trump. He is all that stood between us and a world envisioned but hateful resentful agenda-driven ideologues like Obama.

They can find another job that would pay for their self expression.
You are slaves. Who cares what you think. Get a better job.
“discrimination” oh please! Starbucks? Stardeibucks?
Starbucks created this culture and are now trying to change it.
I hope they hold the line. It’s a business decision.
The poor “victims” should immediately appeal to Judge Boasberg. Boasberg will mandate nicer, acceptable uniforms with the hammer and sickle.
Forward Comrades!
“Another worker then says, “We’re just expected to lie down and accept it,””
Yep.... or quit.
The dress code helps customers discern the employees from the homeless in the store.
In fact they sell very little plain coffee, cream and sugar optional. I once asked the “barista” at our local in-store Starbucks what percentage of customers order regular old coffee. Less than 10%. That’s why the wait is often so long — they’re busy concocting elaborate soda fountain drinks and sometimes forget to brew a pot o’ joe.
Be queer on your own time.
When you’re at work, your job is to make and serve coffees and smoothies and stuff. The world does not revolve around your gaiety.
