The latest update to Windows 11 is a mess.

The average person won’t know how to navigate all the things one would have to do to correct errors that occur with their personal computers. My two year old laptop has been deemed obsolete because the newest update isn’t compatible. Well, there is more to it than that, but that’s about the situation in a nutshell.

A lot of people know this too. The boards are full of people calling out MS on this.

“Oh that’s why it’s been screwing up computers everywhere.”

I don’t see how it could screw it up any worse than the MS Devs have already been screwing it up for all these years... Kind of a toss up which is actually worse...

But the real true source of problems are the Corporate policies and decisions along the way... Like writing completely unneeded bloatware, redesign, and choosing AI written software.

Nadella is a dismal failure. He’s essentially turned MSFT into a public utility. This seems to be the way.

cy.get('div')
// an assertion ensures we have elements

.should('have.length.gt', 1)
.then(($els) => { const $filtered = $els.filter((k, el) => { // if the found element is inside

“The latest update to Windows 11 is a mess.”

Boy, was it ever. I thought about rolling back and just freezing everything.

Over 50% of my code this year 2025 so far was written by AI and going forward it’ll be around 70%. However, 100% of all my code gets plenty of careful scrutiny.

Think of AI as a tool for programmers like those new bulging Yankees baseball bats are a tool for a Hitter. If the Hitter doesn’t know how to effectively use a bat then the new bulge isn’t going to help much. But if they know what they are doing then they’ll do better.

Perhaps a better analogy would be the scenario of a middle school student taking a math test with 30 word problems and them being allowed to use a calculator where AI is like this calculator. If the student doesn’t understand the math problem then the calculator won’t do them any good.

“My two year old laptop has been deemed obsolete because the newest update isn’t compatible.”

They threw away your private property as if it belonged to them to throw away if they like. This arrogance is exactly why I left MS almost ten years ago now. They think they perpetually own your machine to do as they like not you.

I cannot fathom why this would not highly offend folks and make them draw the line to ditch MS with a passion in mass. There are alternatives that are absolutely just as good that allow you to take it back from MS and actually truly own your own machine again.

What do you use? I have been unable to get anything useful from Grok or ChatGpt when evaluating.

I'm not a Nadella fan, but MSFT has gone from ~$40 in 2014 to $386.50 at the moment.

That's isn't a public utility.

“Nadella is a dismal failure.”

Microsoft has the second largest market cap in the US. Some failure.

Sure, why not? That’s what machines are for.

Most code is a bunch of boilerplate like the wording in contracts. Some 40 page document where only a few phrases are changed for the particular usage.

Spoken like a brown-nosing toady.

The problem is the unspeakable greed and wishful thinking of managers and executives.

They don’t understand that “Good, Fast, Cheap — Pick any two” cannot be avoided.

By using AI and shifting everything to India, they have not only eaten the seed corn, but destroyed all existing stocks of seed elsewhere.

Thank you for sharing that with us friend. But I paused all windows updates almost ten years ago now. Similar to what ShadowAce says... “Linux, the ultimate service pack for Windows.”

Not missing one thing from that MS Ball and Chain mess. :)

When you have just about enslaved the whole global market with monopolistic proprietary practices there is no way to lose... Right now if Apple would come off their high horse and lower prices to make them more competitive MS would tank hard and never survive the desktop market. I am questioning why Apple is not doing this right now to steal the market away because this is the absolute right opportunity to do it. They could kill MS overnight if they did, folks would buy a new MAC instead of a new MS machine because of this new unfair MS mandate.

We used to laugh at “bloatware” back in the 90s, but now we have bloatware^10. I’ve never seen so much useless crap crammed into apps and programs. Doing the simplest things has become such a pain in the ass with the computer injecting itself into everything.

Thank God for the simple archaic relic of FReeRepublic.
