My friend in California always had Maine Coon cats. Beautiful, highly intelligent felines. She flew to Maine to get two at the Kittery Cattery in Kittery, Maine. Very expensive. And not as large as the one pictured here.
Supposedly the Guinness book record of mc cat is about 47 inches long(including tail)...this supposedly stands at 4’3”(51 inches) ....internet so full of lies...I am skeptical.
“Heeeeere, human, human, human, human!”
One of my friend’s Maine Coons used the toilet. The other went out every morning and walked a few blocks to spend the day at the bar with the drinkers there. She didn’t drink, just liked the company of men. What a hussy.
Then my friend decided to be a lesbian, didn’t tell her daughters. One of the Maine Coons would not set foot in the house when that woman was there. You really can’t go wrong with a Maine Coon.
Our last wienerdog died three years ago. My wife was going through a lot of other issues, and she was heartbroken. We live in an area a little outside of a city and people abandon a lot of cats here. A very scruffy looking orange cat started showing up on our back porch. But he was very timid. She started putting out food for him. After a few months my wife and him made friends and a month or two after that he moved in with us.
He seemed to be a normal sized cat when he first arrived but he kept growing. We took him to the vet to check for a chip in case he was lost... but there was nothing. The vet said that he was a kitten, and he was still growing. Sure, enough he grew to be over 16 pounds... at his last checkup he weighed over 18 pounds. I asked if we were feeding him too much. The vet said, “No, he is just a really big cat and many really big cats don't stop growing until they are about 5 years old.” She laughed because we were wienerdog dog people for over 40 years and now our cat is bigger than any of the dogs that we have had.
He is a very affectionate cat and people always wonder if we have photoshopped pictures that we show them. The cat Zeus outweighs him by about 10 pounds, but Teddy is a Siberian who is extremely fluffy which makes him look larger than he actually is. He is over 3 feet tall when he stands on his back feet. He dwarfs all of the cat trees we have bought for him... We had to get a supersized litter box.
But he is extremely affectionate and has more of a dog like personality than I have ever seen in an animal that is not a dog. His favorite game is a sort of hockey game where we bat juice bottle caps across the floor, and he chases them down and bats them back. He can hit the caps so hard that they fly all the way across the room. And of course, he always likes to jump to the highest flat spot in any room. I am always worried that he is going to hurt himself when he jumps back down, but I have no idea how to end this behaivior.
He sheds so much this time of the year that I bought 3 robo-vacs so we can run them around each floor of the house every two or three days. The last time I pulled all of the fur out of the base station bags, we had enough fur to cover two or three cats. I am normally allergic to cats and many types of dogs, but his fur doesn't really bother me except that sometimes while I am sleeping he cuddles up to my face and I wake up with fur stuck to my lips and whiskers and in my nose.
Oooooooo! I want dat kitteh!!!! Pretty fella!
Years ago, I had a friend who had several show cats. I helped her show them a few times. During rare breaks in running cats to one judge or another, I’d go to the area where the Maine Coons were to admire their beauty and their grand size.
I had a “mutt” cat who stood around 3 ft. tall and weighed 22 lbs. Sadly, I lost him to cancer last year.
I had a good sized calico, and he could talk.
But I got rid of him, everything out of his mouth was damned lie.
Wait, I thought we couldn’t use that word anymore.
Only in bad connotations................
That requires a very very large catbox.
I found one in the wild as a kitten after a hurricane. He is HUGE and sooooooo loving!!!!! He is quite the talker and ‘warbles’ when he meows! ❤️
I have to use a Rubbermaid storage tub as a litter box because he is so tall! He comes when I call him and lays beside me on the breakfast table so we can have breakfast together and if I dont’ share with him fast enough, he puts his paw on my wrist and pulls it towards him or just pats me on the back of my hand.
Wow. That’s sounds great. Kitten foundlings are always the most lovable and are so close to us as the humans.
What does he use for a litter box?!
The bathtub??
You gotta ask cowgirl. #31.
I have a cat that barely breaks 6 lbs.
When I was in Boston years ago some researchers I knew bred cats that didn’t grow up. Always kittens. Gave them to their friends.
They were cute but kittens are like babies... they need to grow up
They had the lifespan of less than a year
Small versions of larger animals typically have health problems, kidneys, heart, liver, etc.............
Check into the Cat Fancier’s Association breeder page. Or look for a local show from the CFA. https://cfa.org/breed/maine-coon-cat/

I can imagine the size and smell of the litter box.
I recently lost my remarkable Main Coone. They are incredible...but high maintenance.
Thanks!
