Researcher uncovers the health-boosting power of oat protein

While including oats in a balanced diet has long been recognized as a healthy food choice, thanks to the fiber content, the benefits of oat protein have been understudied—until now. New research suggests there's even more to this grain.

Drs. Sijo Joseph and Lovemore Malunga and Dr. Thomas Netticadan recently published two articles that show the nutritional benefits of oat protein are even greater than previously known.

In one study, researchers found that an oat protein diet benefitted cardiovascular health, reduced bad cholesterol and improved cardiac function in obese rats. Building on these positive results, the team launched a second study, focused on animals with hypertension. Oat protein significantly lowered blood pressure and improved heart function.

"Risk factors like hypertension and high cholesterol lead to cardiovascular disease in humans. Both conditions are improved by consuming oats," says Joseph. "Additionally, protein from oats is easy to digest and key nutrients are readily absorbed in the body."

I love oatmeal with a ton of sugar.
I like lots of beer!
I like salads drenched in hi fat dressings.

If only BigAg didn’t kill the oats with glyphosate to dry them before harvest...the oats might be a tad healthier.

Perhaps RFKennedyJr might address the issue?

Where are they getting the protein of the oats? It surely isn’t in rolled or steel cut oats.

Oats are surprisingly high in nutrition, even protein.

They’re a little low in lysine, an amino acid that prevents them from being a complete protein.

Mr. GG2 cooks and eats his oatmeal 3-4 days a week for breakfast. The dog gets the last bit out of the bowl. They both have their blood pressure under control. 😏

I add honey, raisins, cinnamon and peanut butter to my oatmeal for extra calories/protein.
