A major power outage is reported in Spain and Portugal, disabling their capitals

A major power outage hit Spain and Portugal on Monday, including their capitals, knocking out subway networks, phone lines, traffic lights and ATM machines.

A graph on Spain's electricity network website showing demand across the country indicated a steep drop around 12:15 p.m. from 27,500MW to near 15,000MW.

A couple of hours later, Spain's electricity network operator said it was recovering power in the north and south of the peninsula, which would help to progressively restore the electricity supply nationwide.

In Portugal, a country of some 10.6 million people, the outage hit the capital, Lisbon, and surrounding areas, as well as northern and southern parts of the country.

Portugal's government said the incident appeared to stem from problems outside the country, an official told national news agency Lusa.

"It looks like it was a problem with the distribution network, apparently in Spain. It's still being ascertained," Cabinet Minister Leitão Amaro was quoted as saying.

The solution to this problem is clearly more green energy, more illegal migrants, more austerity and more wokeism

forward!

American Blackout. Docudrama. 2013

Also old enough to remember the NY blackout, and of course the dust bowl.

“What happens when you decommission your coal and nuclear plants....”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With IWTs having a max installed capacity of over 32 GW and supplying about 1/4 of the energy, it’s a safe bet that the grid failure has something to do with wind. Getting them to admit it is another issue....
Happened to me in central Nevada. Seems power company lost half the state, took a few hours to get back up.
You don’t turn on a load that large all at once - you’ll ruin your generators and transmission lines. You do it a small sector at a time, wait for everything to settle out, then on to the next sector.
Fortunately, the combo dining facility / bar had a 500KW generator attached. It spun up “Right Now” and we had a place to gather. The bar, not the dining end.
Nothing useful got done that night (grin).
100% true. And don't forget the added power drain of tons of "Asians" moving in without upgrading the infrastructure. Leftism hurts them in more ways than one.
Wasn’t it just last week that the media celebrated Spain operating their grid running entirely on “renewables” during a week day? I seem to recall reading an headline on that “milestone”.
I found the article from April 22.
“Spain hits first weekday of 100% renewable power on national grid”
https://www.pv-magazine.com/2025/04/22/spain-hits-first-weekday-of-100-renewable-power-on-national-grid/#:~:text=Spain‘s%20grid%20ran%20entirely%20on,61.5%25%20of%20the%20grid%20mix.
(I haven’t read the entire thread so pardon me if this has already been mentioned).
I wonder IF they are having any looting?
Blackouts in some places were well known for that.
