Ultra-processed foods may be linked to early DEATH
BBC ^ | April 28 | BBC

People who eat lots of ultra-processed foods (UPF) may be at greater risk of dying early, a study in eight countries including the UK and the US suggests.

Processed meats, biscuits, fizzy drinks, ice cream and some breakfast cereals are examples of UPF, which are becoming increasingly common in diets worldwide.

UPFs tend to contain more than five ingredients, which are not usually found in home cooking, such as additives, sweeteners and chemicals to improve the food's texture or appearance.

Some experts say it's not known why UPFs are linked to poor health - there is little evidence it's down to the processing itself and could be because these foods contain high levels of fat, salt and sugar.

The researchers behind the study, published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, looked at previous research to estimate the impact of ultra-processed food intake on mortality.

Stay the hell away from the center aisles in grocery stores, except for maybe the canned veggies and baking aisle ( flour, walnuts…)

Get out of my kitchen, RFK!

In the USA, Big Boys and Big Girls get to choose their own food.

You see things like cereal having labels of heart healthy, etc., why not an entire food product lineup that is natural and full of real things that make people healthy.

><

👍🏼👍🏼

Agreed, need to exercise. But disagree on priorities:

You are more what you eat than what you do to exercise.

When I refer to processed foods, I do so generally: Keep carbs down as much as possible... at least less than 100g, 50g is a good first target, IMHO. I’m now doing 20-30g. Increase fat, maintain protein.

Although, someone carb-limiting themselves is likely health-minded enough to not be sedentary.

Yes, I just knew Cheetos were OK because anything that tastes that good has to be healthy. 😏

“GET GOV’T OUT OF HEALTHCARE WHERE THEY CONSTITUTIONALLY DON’T BELONG!!!”

If they’re going to force dangerous vaccines on us, I want Trump and RFK involved.

“Snackwell products”

I forgot about those. I really liked their Vienna-finger like cookies. But SnackWells actually had higher carb counts which, we all know, aren’t very helpful in the weight loss or management departments.

All these “reports” of things both bad and good for you are overstated. Just like new discoveries, new drugs or studies on health.

“Ultra-processed foods may be linked to early DEATH”

DEATH all caps, but “may be” lower case.

It is just as true to say “Ultra-processed foods may NOT be linked to early death”.

New drug MAY lower your risk of CANCER by 10% (TEN per cent) studies in mice show.

Eat lots of greens and you could see a 1% lowering of your blood pressure. WHOOPIE DO!

Eat, drink, and take things you don’t like/hate and you might live a few months longer. (or get hit by a car driven by an illegal alien gang member tomorrow)

OR enjoy life to the fullest for ALL the life you get!

To you that may be true. But people are gullible. And they will use those slogans and not bother to think.

I teach a six week life skills class centered around keeping yourself fed every year. Shopping, setting up your kitchen and basic cookery. Most of the students have heard the slogans and take them to heart. Because they do not know any better.

They are surprised how easy, tasty and cheap (comparatively) it is to have a healthy meal at home.

Trump has aided and abetted the injection with Operation Warspeed. RFK is a rabid greenie and his wife is vegan, talk about a trustfull source for nutrition advices! All good reasons NOT to trust them for public health.
RFK has already proven he’s all smoke and mirror. He could have tried to reign in big pharmas (eg by banning media ads like EVERYWHERE in the world) or big food (eg by banning conflict of interest between the industry and the regulatory agencies) since both are the cause of the current health crisis. Instead, all he comes up is his stupid ban on food dyes and his hysteria against “ultra processed food” (whatever the f that means) which will do absolutely nothing, zich, nada to improve Americans’ health.

This can’t be stated enough. I’ve listened to this kind of “health noise” my whole life.

After I pull out my earplugs, I immediately look at who wants to make a $ off “the noise.”

Best part of a comment made on this site in months!

It is all about quality of life not quantity of life.
Living on Kale and sprouts, doesn’t inspire me.
A cold 12 pack and some Chicken nuggets/with honey DO!

Donuts are called cookies in Idaho.

This is in reference to something you do in a car or truck, not something you eat, just to be clear.
