ATTENTION: INVASIVE MOSQUITOES DETECTED IN A PART OF SOUTH SAN JOSE

Update:
Invasive Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, first detected in the county in large numbers last year, have been found again this year in a neighborhood where they were detected last year. This reappearance means the mosquito’s eggs successfully survived the winter and are hatching now that the weather is getting warmer.

This mosquito is an aggressive daytime biter and can spread diseases like dengue and Zika. These diseases aren’t in the county right now, but finding this mosquito again is a serious health concern because it means the mosquito is successfully surviving and reproducing in our community, increasing the risk of these diseases.

Detection Area:
The invasive mosquitoes were found in a neighborhood in South San José, near Cypress Point Court and Fairway Glen Lane.

What We Are Doing:
We are responding to the invasive mosquito findings by:

Based on our findings, mosquito control measures may take place in affected neighborhoods. This can include multiple larvicide treatments using different methods that can include, but are not limited to, backpack spraying and truck-mounted equipment.

How You Can Help:
You play an important role in controlling the spread of this mosquito. You can help by doing the following:

There are trillions of mosquitoes easy of the Mississippi yet you would think everyone would be affected by the dengue and Zika diseases but that is not the case.
I have been in Southern California since 1988 in the San Fernando valley and I can count the number of mosquitoes I have seen on one hand.

In Kern County California they have been really bad for many years. Just walk out in the yard with capris on and wind up with many bites on the legs. Yeah, they bite low. And it seems like their bites itch much worse than regular mosquitos.
