California authorities say they caught an alleged “serial cat killer” after the man was supposedly captured luring a feline on camera.
Santa Ana Police Department said in an Instagram post Wednesday that they received multiple reports about “the suspected abuse and killing of cats in a local neighborhood.” Reports from neighbors said that a man was luring neighborhood cats to his property where he then allegedly harmed or killed them. Police say these reports came in over several weeks.
Alejandro Acosta Oliveros, 45, was “positively identified by several victims and witnesses as the suspect responsible for acts of animal cruelty,” the police department said.
The police department shared a video of Oliveros allegedly capturing him “luring and harming a cat.” In the video, a man can be seen between a truck and a car crouching down to the ground. He then stands up with his arm stretched out. The man can then be seen leaning on the car while looking around.
A search warrant was executed Wednesday after detectives gathered evidence on the 45-year-old. During the search, detectives collected evidence “related to the case” inside Oliveros’ home and placed him in custody. Officials did not disclose what kind of evidence was collected as of Friday.
Police told KTLA that Oliveros made a confession but officials are still determining the full extent. Officials told the outlet they are unsure of a specific number of cats involved but say they believe there were “a lot.”
Several residents reported cat thefts in the area, with one incident being caught on surveillance footage March 21, KTLA reported. In a video shared by the outlet, a man can be seen picking up a cat from its front yard. The cat’s owner, Eva Corlew, reported the theft and about a week later, the Westminster Police Department received a tip that the pet was at another home in Santa Ana. Corlew has reportedly since been reunited with her cat.
The suspect in the case remained at large but police told KTLA that Oliveros is believed to be the man behind the theft and of many others in the neighborhood.
Oliveros was booked in jail and faces felony animal cruelty charges, police said.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Give me five minutes in a room alone with this guy.
Can’t wait for Tom Homan to zero-in on El California.
“Cat burglar” used to have a different meaning.
SOB ever comes around the farm and tries to kill my barn cats he ain’t gonna like it.
Illegal aliens now slaughtering cats..dont worry, the commies will come out crying demanding that he be allowed to stay here
needs to be flossed with barbed wire
But “They’re killing the cats” was fake news.
Well he may be killing ferals which will help the bird population.
Do they taste like chicken? /s
Including jail.
What is the old saying?
Dogs have masters.
Cats have valets.
This deranged human messed with the wrong special interest group!
May he roast in hell.

Yes, he’s almost certainly an illegal. Illegal aliens...the “gift” that just keeps on giving.
In Tennessee killing someone else’s pet is a felony whether it’s a dog, cat, horse, etc.
I know this isn’t Tennessee but still.
“Peanuts” is in reruns, of course. Today’s strip has Sally in front of a classroom giving her report on animals and she has brought Snoopy. One of the kids in the class asks her, “Is that a chicken?”
While this cat thief should be hung from the nearest tree, there is no sympathy from me for the owners, only for their poor cats.
“There’s a cat in the kettle at the Peking Moon...”
That's a possibility too, but the reports are coming in from the pet owners.
As a side note, I don't subscribe to the notion that feral cats are a menace to the bird populations.
Over the past several years, there have been a number of feral cats around my house. I would often see one stalking my bird feeder and never once would it catch a bird.
However, there were a couple who would hear my pellet rifle go off when I shot a sparrow and come running out of the bushes and pick it up and take it away. I called them my retriever cats.....LOL!
You were with me the entire night.
