I did not know of Canada’s involvement with Lincoln’s death.

I guess they had to go to plan where no one would expect.

Fun thing about reading old newspapers is that you realize they were no better than the mainstream lackies of today. If they didn’t know, they’d just print what they heard.

Plus, they were as politically biased as any media we have today.

Kinda like Christopher Steel, John McCain and Tim Kaine meeting up at that security conference in Halifax in 2016...?

they printed every narrative Stanton leaked to the through and after the war- including the murder of Lincoln. Someone should write a book. Someone has in re: the intertwining timelines of 1.)escape of the CSA govt. by train with the treasury funds/bullion on a separate train 2.) the conspiracy of the murderer of Lincoln and the attempts on the 2 Non-Radical members of his cabinet- Seward and VP Johnson and 3) the ghastly railroad train “memorial” trip of Lincolns poorly embalmed body back to Illinois- a sick worship creation. Fact is, the Radicals did not want what they knew would be Lincoln’s merciful Reconstruction plans- which did not include a decade plus of Union army governors and occupying troops- to enable theft of property and utter corruption therein. Stanton kept Booth’s diary (pages torn out, which were there when the CO gave the diary to Stanton) and withheld it from the Tribunal, to be later discovered years later in Stanton’s safe after his death. Gen Lew Wallace- later author of Ben Hur presided over the Tribunal.

The book among many well written- By James L. Swanson

Incidentally- James Swanson, just died April 21,2025 this past Monday. A shame— quite honest history writer. Bloody Crimes imho one of his best.
