“Hey, Grandpa..., what’s fer dinner?”
Truly an American original. When Marshall was only 22 he was a banjo player at a radio station in Boston. His grumpiness before the morning show made one of the staff affectionally call him "grandpa". Jones liked the nickname so much that he turned it into a stage persona. And that's how "Grandpa Jones" came about. He played the character for 63 years. All that time he never wore makeup as Grandpa. He let himself age into the role.
