Now I know why Trix, Fruit Loops and Skittles give me gas.
(I happen to agree with Jr on this, it's just that the STO episode came to mind when reading this)
Now watch the left say: How dare RFK Jr and Trump ban petroleum dyes in foods!
I bought some red food coloring yesterday for a work project to pigment some water for a demonstration I was doing. The ingredients are water, Red #3 and Red #40.
As I got in the car I thought about sending a bottle to my leftist US Senators and see if they would drink it.
Not two minutes later my son sent a Babylon Bee article entitled “Democrats begin chugging Artificial Food Dyes to Protest RFK Jr.
You can’t make this stuff up.
https://babylonbee.com/news/democrats-begin-chugging-artificial-food-dyes-to-protest-rfk
They are working with industry to remove these dyes.
Nowhere does it say these dyes have been banned. They are being gradually removed but they are being done through a cooperative process. Again there has not been an outright official ban. This is poor journalism.
“Cancer and diabetes in young people is going up at an alarming rate and nobody seems to know why. We have to turn our attention to underlying causes such as chemicals and toxins that children are exposed to...”
More ‘exposure’ to sunshine and fresh air and running around like a maniac for the FUN of it, or building forts in the woods, or riding your BIKE to and from school all week and then all over the town on the weekends, would be a great place to start!
Other than a few minor broken bones (from falling off said bike) I don’t remember a single kid I grew up with being fat, lazy, diabetic or having any sort of cancer diagnosis.
But, that WAS 50 years ago. ;)
Wait. Red 4 is delicious!
Now ban petroleum and plastic in chewing gum.
Altho’ we might miss the pretty colors, they aren’t necessary.
I will miss the extra energy I get from Red Dye #40 though.

As an aside: For many years, the US Army has used “smoke generators”, that don’t actually create smoke, but vaporized “fog oil”. So what is fog oil?
When crude oil is refined, depending on what kind of crude it is, you get all sorts of products out in different amounts. “Light, Sweet” oil is the most desired, because most of its refined products are things like jet fuel, and high octane gasoline. “Heavy, Sour” oil is mostly things like tar and asphalt.
In any event, what is left over after refinement, when all the ‘goodie’ is taken out? It is called “fog oil”.
The US Army Chemical Corps is in charge of large scale smoke production for tactical situations. For decades they were Headquartered at Fort McClellan, Alabama (now defunct), and produced ridiculous amounts of fog oil smoke there.
So the local plants were repeatedly coated with a layer of fog oil.
Well, one fine day, the EPA decided to test the local plants and animals to see how they had been injured by fog oil.
Nothing. Zero, nihil, nada. After generations, fog oil seemed to be one of the most benign substances ever tested.
They redid their tests several times to the same result.
Fog Oil is definitely a “petroleum product”.
There’s that phrase again. Petroleum based. So are most of our Pharma products. Oil is the building block of our paints, clothes, fertilizers, gas, plastics. It is a dumb statement.
“Synthetic food dyes (e.g., Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1) can be found in candies, beverages, cereals, and candies.”
Methink Americans will continue to be morbidly obese and pray of big food and big pharmas in its future free of synthetic dyes. Thank you RFK for the nice deflection from the real culprits.
