A pregnant woman says that she's changing the name she and her husband had initially decided on for their unborn child — but her mother-in-law has already gotten a tattoo of the original name.
In a post shared to Reddit, the anonymous 30-year-old woman writes: "My husband and I are expecting our first child, a boy."
"We had a name we liked but never told anyone it was final," she adds.
But that didn't stop her mother-in-law from inking the name permanently on her body.
"My MIL (57), who has always been a bit much, took it upon herself to get the name tattooed on her wrist," she continues in the post. "We were shocked but still unsure about the name."
A month later, the couple ultimately decided "to go with something else."
"When she found out, she LOST IT, saying we 'disrespected' her, and now she’s demanding we change it back," the woman writes. "Even my husband is asking me to reconsider 'to keep the peace.' " She, however, refuses.
Reddit users are now chiming in on the situation, with many criticizing the mother-in-law for taking such a dramatic step in the first place.
Wrote one: "And thiiiiis is why we don't get names as tattoos."
Added another commenter: "Until the kid is HERE, the name is always hypothetical. Hell, I've read articles where people changed their baby's name months after birth because it didn't fit them. She's silly for jumping the gun."
Still others suggested a compromise.
"Can you use it as a middle name?" wrote a commenter. "Otherwise too bad for MIL she should have waited!"

Why does everyone want prison tats these days?
This is the sad state of mind people have now. Petty. Hateful. Low IQ.
The husband want to keep the peace
Not for everything. Just this one thing
He’s never done to before and never will again. Until every single other issue. The woman is stuck with this wimp and his wacko mommy.
Good luck with that
And it’s all thanks to guys like Obeyme.
Don’t tell me. The original name was Seven?
Trash is as trash does. Everyone wants to express their individuality these days—- in exactly the same was everyone else wants to express their individuality
Years ago I was auditioning locals to do voice work on religious audiobooks. One woman in her 30 came to audition. Her diction was poor, and our books employed an extensive vocabulary, with the occasional Latin phrase thrown in. She stumbled all over the place, and also wasn’t dressed professionally. When I had her read enough, she showed me her “Crown of Thorns” tattoo. I guess that was supposed to impress me. It repulsed me. I don’t get the tattoo thing in general (except maybe for sailors/merchant marine). I don’t get it at all for women.
I am from the tail of the baby-boom, but was the youngest of five. I find that people from my generation and even earlier act like they are of a later different generation, and I find it jarring.
Yeah, I would say we have reached peak stupidity.
Don’t get me going. Ssooooo sick of it. Everyone, including high-up politicians we see as allies.
It’s trash, it’s ugly (generally looks like major dirt and grime no matter what color you are) and it’s stupid - you’ll never get it washed off. MIL here is perfect example of that.
“Why does everyone want prison tats these days?”
Yeah. Couldn’t Grandma have just embroidered a pillow? When “tatoo!” is the first thing that comes to mind, there are major issues.
My in-laws thought they got to name our first child. They were very unhappy with the name their son, and my husband, chose at the moment of birth, one of two that we had narrowed it down to. They begged and pleaded with him to change the name to the one they wanted. They told him he could get the birth certificate changed. He stood firm.
I never knew about any of this until I was delivering our second child and they came to visit. They asked about names, and we really hadn’t decided on any. That’s when they mentioned that they hated the name we gave our first son. Two years later I found about it when they were still complaining! That night I went into labor, and asked my husband what they were talking about. He had never told me about all the he got grief from them for months until he told them to drop it.
Father of the baby - big win. It’s not going to be easy, but stand your ground, and don’t back down. They will eventually come around.
Why do women want bodies full of tattoos today?
In one way its great. If they are viewable, they are excellent warning signs to stay away.
The number 1 reason people get tattoos removed? It’s the wrong name! But that’s usually because of a breakup.
Naming children is nobody but the parents business. Period.
I was disappointed when a close female relative got a tattoo. No guy around, on her own she often makes poor impulsive decisions with lasting consequences.
They don't call them "tramp stamps" for nothing.
Same thing happened to me, I was upset my brother didn't name his daughter Denise like I suggested. I was relieved when he named the next child, a boy, Denephew.
Anywhere, not just there, are warning signs.
