If it were up to me, the US flag would fly at half-mast on Memorial Day. And that’s about it.
They’re only “Half Mast” on ships... They are “Half Staff” because Trump ordered it based on the Pope’s death (which I disagree with).

Pope Francis was consistently hostile to President Trump. The only thing that could have made it worse was if Trump had come out in favor of the Traditional Latin Mass. I was surprised that the pope was friendly to Vance on Sunday, in fact that he even agreed to meet him. When Pompeo was Secretary of State and in Rome, the pope refused to meet with him.

I despise this putting flags at half-mast for every Tom, Dick and Harry. Never for a member of Congress. And I didn’t do it for Carter, not even “out of respect for the office”.

Same here! He took the Catholic church in the wrong direction, but I am glad that President Trump is showing him respect on his passing.
Does the U.S. fly its flags at half staff for any other religious leader? I do not remember any other religious leader given that honor.
When Obama was the pResident, the flag was at half mast almost perpetually.
Using it like that is endorsing a state of continuous weakness and victimhood.
When we had those terrible casualties at Tarawa, which had been formerly not seen in the war, we didn’t put the flag at half mast then.
