Millions of Americans love using their credit cards – the most secure, hassle-free, and worry-free way to pay. Credit cards alert customers to potential fraud, giving them financial safety and peace of mind. They also provide convenient payment options and rewards families use to pay for everyday goods like gas and groceries or trips to see friends and family, all supporting our nation’s economy.
The Durbin-Marshall Credit Card Bill would mandate your credit cards can run on alternative networks – not the trusted and stable networks you probably use today – and there is no guarantee the convenience, zero-liability fraud protection, and rewards programs you know will remain. Corporate mega-stores will make more money while you sacrifice your payment convenience, rewards, and peace of mind.

Thanks for the “neutral tone” link. It was somewhat helpful at getting at the facts with a bit less propaganda.
“ The country would be a better place if we all went to cash. Hopefully this accelerates the move.”
It would be a huge pain to have to use cash for many things.
I understand that all companies charge more to cover that 4% fee.
However, the ONLY gas stations around here that give a discount for paying CASH are the non affiliated ones.
Typically owned/operated by Asians who buy the least expensive gasoline they can. Which sometimes results in people having engine problems. Typically the discount is $.10/gallon. Which, I am getting back more like $.17 on the AMX discount.
In fact one of those gas stations literally had this happen last month. A customer filled up there and then their vehicle would not start the next day. The total bill to repair the vehicle was $1800. The problem was water in the fuel.
The person asked the station to pay for it. They chose not to. The person then posted it on the local town Facebook page. It went viral on the various local FB pages.
It crushed their business.
I haven’t heard of this but my guess is it is sponsored by Visa and American Express. They want to keep their 3.5% of all charges made and keep blockchain transactions out of the mainstream.
Sorry, the gas station discount is only 3% NOT 6%.
6% is ONLY on grocery stores and pharmacies. The local grocery stores DO NOT give me a discount for paying CASH or by check. So, I CHARGE ALL Groceries.
AMEX merchant fees have caused many retailers to not accept them. I had a retail business for over 30 years. I dropped AMEX my second year. Never felt it. When a customer realized I didn’t accept AMEX, they just pulled out a VISA. My proceesing charges for VISA/MC averaged 1.7%.
Same here, I am about to drop Amex.
I got my first credit at age 60. Before that I used a debit card. I found out that I can get a small discount on all purchases. I saved over 1200 dollars in 7 years. I never paid one cent in interest by paying the bill on time. I watched Dave Ramsey and Caleb Hammer videos and see how undisciplined people get them so deep in debt that they will never get them selves out of. Those folks are ignorant about how interest works. The interest on cards is over 20% a year. I always budgeted my money. My advice is to spend your money wisely. Your priority is to purchase first on basic needs. Not on charging your limited disposable income on dinners out, clothes that you don’t need, toys and luxuries you can’t afford. This is basic common sense. My parents were children of the depression era. They taught us kids discipline about money, not the schools.
