“Shark Tank” investor Kevin O’Leary suggested Monday that President Trump will not oust Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, whom the president has heavily criticized in recent days after the central bank decided to hold interest rates steady last month.
“You don’t want to whack the Fed. That’s a really bad idea,” O’Leary said on NewsNation’s “The Hill” in an interview Monday night. “You want the Fed and the executive to be working together. You know, that’s the markets want an independent fed.”
“The whole world wants an independent Fed. The Fed maintains the debt market too,” he continued. “You gotta remember, you don’t want those bonds going wonky.”
The Canadian businessman added, “Powell has been great. Trump’s not going to fire him. This, this too will pass. Look for the signal, not the noise.”
His remarks come as pressure rises between Trump and the Fed chair. The president has repeatedly slammed Powell for not cutting down interest rates as the economic sentiment waivers in light of the administration’s sweeping tariff agenda, describing the investment banker as “a major loser.”
“There can be a SLOWING of the economy unless Mr. Too Late, a major loser, lowers interest rates, NOW,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Agreed Trump is a big talker as Hillary is still very free and running around ..
Still looking for that $5000 check, must be in the mail...
I heard a story recently that LBJ literally went to the office of the Chairman of the Federal Reserve and smacked him around. Physically beat the crap out of him.
Powell is not independent, not after he helped the brain dead President Biden, and Trump know it.
Most unfortunate ....
Have not heard that, I did read that LBJ served in the SW Pacific in 1943 and was assigned to the Army Air Force Med Bombers and would refused to fly except on Mike runs..
Our country was founded on the basis of Government by Consent.
The Fed has to be accountable to someone who is elected.
The Fed cannot be allowed to sabotage elected leadership.
I heard it on a podcast over the weekend when they were talking about the relationship between POTUS and the Fed.
I can’t remember which one.
Need to whack it for good and permanently get rid of it completely.
Central Banks are a problem not a solution.
His entire premise is stupid. The Fed is obviously NOT independent. If it was they wouldn’t have lowered rates to try to help Biden. The Fed has a history, just like the courts, of being partisan. Trump should clean house. Maybe the next guy will do his job or maybe end the Fed.
Central Banks are a problem not a solution....
Exactly and the Fed is there to do what is best for the Central Banks not the USA.
And by the way none of them are part of the Federal Government.
Trump can appoint acting Fed Reserve Chairman after Powell is out in 26. He gets to pick among current board members. I would do that because Senate Dims voting on confirmation will want someone that tanks the economy. The nomination for the 5 year term can come later after the acting Chairman does what Trump needs to get done.
The acting chairman can serve 210 days although this could be extended. This gives Trump a lot more control over economy.
BTTT
There is no such thing as an "independent" high government official.
And even if he was independent, that would mean that he answers to nobody, rather than a duly elected Chief Executive.
And beyond all that, where in the Constitution does such a government official fit??
This is why we have the Deep State and the destruction of our country.
Besides all that what a great idea. /
Fellow Airmen’s opinions of LBJ were low...
