I blame Pete Buttgig.
He was Transportation Secretary after all.

Yes it’s sad that there are car accidents.
Is this a matter for the federal government to address?
Or to look at another way, what sort of law could be passed that would reduce car accidents? Drunk driving reckless driving etc are already against the law, and those laws are state and local laws not federal laws.

Don’t give illegals NY State driver licenses.

a good start would be to reprogram the 10% of Fed highway funds [paid for with gasoline taxes] that are dedicated to bicycle-only “highways”, which get almost zero use, instead using said monies to improving highways with the most fatal accidents ...

In what world are car crashes on Long Island a “national crisis?” That sounds very local to me.

Driver’s Ed, like k-12 education in general has produced students with no knowledge, bad thinkers, bad drivers, bad everything.

There are foreigners who can’t read English driving transport trucks... So when you handout a class 1 drivers license with every green card, you end up with a lot of accidents.

moronic illegal alien “drivers”

There is no test to determine the degree of impairment from marijuana and other street drugs. The Democrats liberalized the drug laws and more accidents are the result.

Every 7 minutes from 2014 to 2023 would be a total of over 675,000 accidents.
So 2100 deaths is only a 0.3% mortality rate, which doesn’t sound surprising.
This is just another politician using a stat to get more money and impose more control over your life.

I hate driving on Long Island because there are basically only three major east-west roadways including the infamous Long Island Expressway (I-495). Morning and evening commutes, you got the sun right in your eyes. All the north-south roads are congestion nightmares.
Take the train when you can! The LIRR is pretty reliable and gets you most places you need to go. They also run out of Grand Central these days as well as Penn Station.
Harry Chapin died on the LIE back around 1981. I still hear his songs on the radio now and then. Traffic accidents out there are an old problem.

Police don’t want to pull drivers over. Who can blame them? They don’t want to be the next Derek Chauvin.

Ban vehicles! There is no Second Amendment for them.
