Kremlin says US position ruling out NATO membership for Ukraine gives satisfaction

The Kremlin said on Monday that the position of US President Donald Trump's administration on ruling out NATO membership for Ukraine gave Moscow satisfaction, but declined to comment on Trump's hopes for deal this week.

US envoy General Keith Kellogg said on Sunday that NATO membership was "off the table" for Ukraine. Trump has repeatedly said previous US support for Ukraine's bid to join NATO was a cause of the war.

"We have heard from Washington at various levels that Ukraine's membership in NATO is excluded," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters." Of course, this is something that causes our satisfaction and coincides with our position."

“Then get on board, and end the war, you rooskies.”

We’re getting there. Once Trump pulls the plug on Europe, including Ukraine, the war will end.

NATO membership needs restricted to handful of original founding members with proven stability and of similar values. The problem with frivolous expansive NATO membership alliance is that it gives other countries the ability via false flags etc to suck every other country into world war. No thanks.

You can't get NATO membership while at war.

A while back, I remember "Z" had a little plan. Put in a line, stop the war and then they can become part of NATO. Then make like Russia started a skirmish....call in the other members of NATO and take the land back.

So Russia is right...without that clause, it will not be a lasting peace.

I just wrote the same thing...basically...except I remember this plan and I believe it came right from “Z”.

Russia already has a 1,400 mile border with NATO member Finland. Ukraine in NATO could cause Putin to “go ballistic”.

Isn’t that what Nato said in the beginning, and their preparing to violate that agreement part of what led to the Russian invasion in the first place?

The best way forward would be to reverse the land grab made by Stalin and return to Poland, Hungary, and Romania the Ukraine controlled territories they held before WW2 (area in green) and returning all of land ceded by Lenin back to Russia (area in blue). Ukraine itself would return to its 1917 borders.

Only a moron would believe it is a good idea for Ukraine to join NATO.

But, of course, you do and you are one.

It's my understanding that even if the US was in favor, any current member can put a hold on new countries joining, vis Turkey haggling over Sweden's accession. Plus, can't join if currently involved in a conflict.

Not to discount that Russia is always difficult to deal with and Putin a KGB thug ruling over a fascist state, but what is it with Western Europeans seeming to decide every third or fourth generation that war with Russia is a good idea? Or that pushing the alliance right up to her border wouldn't get a response. Mind you, the Clinton, Bush II, Obama, and Biden administrations are just as culpable in this as the Euros.

It takes two to end the war, and on what terms? I’m glad I’m not President. It’s just an ugly business and I want the US out of it.

We all have been led to believe, and fortified by our many Russian bots, that the war was about Ukraine joining NATO. So, this should obviously cause Russia to return all Ukrainian soil and leave the nation as it’s now promised it wont be allowed into NATO.

Well that’s not going to happen because Vlad the Invader used that as cover to invade for economic reasons. Yes, the US intelligence fiddling in Ukraine and the Russian fiddling in Ukraine has always been about resources. Should this theory be correct, don’t expect peace and Russia out of Ukraine anytime soon.

Good news….now, what happens to Turkey? Thrown out or do they withdraw from NATO? Having an Islamic member of NATO is kinda like having radical Islamists in the airline business….

Putin may trust Trump. So that's not the issue.

He knows that the Americans may vote for a Democrat in 2028 (somebody like Gavin Newsom) and we'll offer NATO membership to Ukraine.

We'll be back to square one.
